Even though the cast was written in third person, the story will be written from
y/n's POV. Y/n uses she/her pronouns, and was assigned female at birth, which she still identifies with. I'm sorry if this doesn't fit you, it's easier for me to write as though y/n was me, feel free to mentally change anything.I had gotten on the maroon train a bit later than everyone else, since I had stayed behind to hug Hagrid. This could very well be my last year at Hogwarts. My trunk had already been put in the luggage compartment, and now I was just making my way through the empty hallways, looking into the compartments for my friends and hoping the train wouldn't randomly start moving.
It did. Just my luck. Taken by surprise, I jolted into someone.
"Sorry, I'm so sorry." I could barely stay upright on stable ground, which led to a lot of embarrassing moments for me. I didn't need another one. I was on the floor now and the person held out a hand. I grabbed it and let them pull me up. I looked up at their face after dusting myself off. I let go the second I did that, realizing who it was. James Potter. That was more than embarrassing.
Annoying, narcissistic bastard James Potter. He had decided that even though we were eleven, he was going to marry me. What right did he have? He was constantly trying to ask me out and impress me. That's some sick joke.
It's just rude. He's trying to be a playboy at 11. Honestly, if I actually did like him, how hurt I would be if I accepted and it was a joke? A guy who would mess with a girl's feelings like that really wasn't worth my time. I couldn't put into words how much I disliked James Potter, and right now the universe. Fate needs to rethink making us run into each other so often. I might lose it and hex him next time. Lily already has god knows how many times, sticking up for me when I didn't want to deal with him.
I stopped thinking about it, realizing I had been standing there for a few seconds.
"Potter." I acknowledged his presence a slight tilt of my head before I tried to push past him, but he stopped me, grabbing my hand gently.
"Hey, wait! Can I ask you a question?"
"You just did." I said as I turned around, still annoyed. Under his unrelenting gaze I gave up. "Fine, but no, I'm not going out with you."
"No, that's not what I was going to ask."
I straightened up, not noticing my horrible posture until now. I was slightly embarrassed but glad. James Potter, maturing. That was new, but definitely not unwanted.
"Will you marry me if you come back to Hogwarts?" He asked, slipping into his usual crooked grin.
I refrained from rolling my eyes. Of course. It was naive, stupid even, for me to even consider that James Potter might have been maturing. I thought before coming up with a good answer, in case I did come back to Hogwarts. I would play along at least this time. To say I was relieved I wouldn't have to deal with him after this for a while was an understatement.
"I'm sure you won't be attractive at all, so, no Potter."
"Want to bet Y/L/N?"
"Bet what?" I asked absentmindedly now. Mary and the girls were probably wondering where I was right now. And Mary would not hesitate to kill me if I took much longer.
"If I'm more attractive when you come back you will marry me."
I blinked. I looked at Potter. His curly brown hair fell messily over his boyish face. I almost snorted aloud. Yeah. Unlikely. Plus him being the daft dumbo he was, he would probably forget even if I did come back to Hogwarts. And how much could a guy change over the summer?
"Fine, I promise." I said tiredly. I really had to get back to the girls.
He smiled and let go of my sleeve, which he had been gripping the whole time.
I turned around to leave but I stumbled over my feet as I quickly changed my mind mid-turn, facing him once again to tell him, "And this stays between us. Okay?"
I didn't need people thinking I had agreed to marry Potter for a bet if and when I came back.
"Okay."
"Prongs, come on, we found a compartment." Sirius Black showed up at his side, along with Remus and Pettigrew.
His gang or whatever. They were always together.
Sirius Black. Even more narcissistic than Potter somehow, and although he didn't run his hands through his hair like Potter did a million times a day, he was late to almost all his classes, busy trying to style his hair or looking in the mirror or whatever overly confident wannabe playboys do in their free time. He flirted with anything that breathed in a 10-mile-radius of him, and once again, he's eleven. Not to mention he's prejudiced against Slytherins for no other reason than their house. I understand disliking people like that 7th year, Malfoy, or the 5th year, Bellatrix, but it's a bit unfair to hate the house in general. It was a wonder that people liked him, and Potter.
And then Remus. We had been pretty good friends since we were partnered on a Potions project. The scarred, tall but kind-of-cute, freckled boy was more quiet, but was really smart. I had learned that he was the one to keep Potter and Black in check, or as much as one could with them.
And Peter Pettigrew. Nothing much to say about him. I had barely ever interacted with him, or seen him talk. He was pretty average, had okay grades, and he was cute, but in a you're-my-little-brother way. He only followed Potter around for whatever reason, and would probably do anything for him and Black. He seemed like a nice kid, it was a shame he was so dependent on Potter.
I rolled my eyes at nothing in particular at their arrival, I just thought of Sirius as the world's biggest asshole next to James Potter and I was not fond of him or his presence. But that should already be evident from my 4 minute rant. I forced a smile and turned to Remus, now smiling genuinely.
"Bye, Remus."
"Bye." He hugged me, and we stayed like that for a few seconds. I really would miss him. He was a good friend. After a final squeeze I let go.
"You better write." I said, looking at him sadly, before turning on my heel.
"Alright, and you better come back." He called after me as I left.
"We'll see." I said, without turning my head.
"Why won't she ever hug me?" James asked.
I rolled my eyes and ran into another person, not paying attention because I was listening to the boys laugh and make fun of, but simultaneously comfort and console him.
I tripped backwards, shaking the mane of the person's curly blonde hair out of my face. The girl turned around.
"There you are, y/n! Come sit with us. Mar's going mental," Marlene said as she grabbed my arm gently and pulled me to a compartment.
