"I can't believe he asked you!" Mandy shrieks when I tell her, Michael and Padma that Blaise asked me to go to Slughorn's party with him. "We're just going as friends," I say. "Sure you are," Michael says. "What does that mean?" I ask.

"It means that Blaise totally likes you," Padma points out. "You don't know that," I say. "Yeah, Blaise has his pick of all the girls at the school, but he chose you," Mandy says. "Because we're friends and I didn't have a date yet," I argue.

"Or because of the way he looks at you when you're not looking," Michael says. Padma gives him a questioning glance. "What? I notice things," Michael shrugs. "You're all delusional," I say, proclaiming it the end of the discussion and returning to the essay I'm writing for Defence Against the Dark Arts.

The evening of Slughorn's party, Padma and Mandy help me get ready. Padma does my makeup, while Mandy does my hair, curling it to perfection and pulling out a tiara from under her bed. "Here, wear this," she says. "Won't it be too much?" I ask, glancing down at my dress robes which are light blue with a deep sweetheart neckline and a tulle ballgown skirt with scattered glitter sequins. "There's no such thing as too much," Mandy says, placing the silver tiara on my head and clapping her hands in excitement when she looks me up and down.

"You're going to blow them all away," Padma says. "I wish you two come come with me," I say, grasping both of their hands in mine. "We'll be here when you get back and you can tell us all about it," Padma says and they lead me out the door.

Michael compliments me from the couch by the fireplace as I make my way to the exit and Luna rushes up to me as I'm leaving. "Hi, Allison," Luna says. "Hey, Luna," I greet. She's wearing festive spangled silver dress robes.

"You're going with Harry, right?" I ask. Luna nods her head. "I heard you're going with Blaise. He's one of the nicer Slytherins," Luna says before stepping out of the common room. I know she's right because Blaise doesn't call her Loony Lovegood like other people do.

"Oh, hello Blaise," she says and then she skips away to meet up with Harry. The door to the common room closes behind me as I make my way over to Blaise. He's wearing traditional black dress robes and holds his arm out to me. "Shall we go on then?" Blaise asks. "I take his arm and say, "We shall."
