"Please buckle your seatbelts. Remember, this airline doesn't support on air smoking in any of its premises, doing so..." The lady's monotone voice dragged on as I shrugged my jacket off and used it as a blanket, trying to get comfortable in the limited space the seat provided.
Michael sat next to me, he had just finished putting his bag in the overhead bin. I gave him a lazy smile as buckled his seatbelt, his face slightly concentrated in his actions. He seemed to struggle with the two sides of the seat belt, both of his oddly small hands fumbling with them.
"Here you go," I muttered softly, taking both of the sides while brushing his hands in the process. I looked up at him through my eyelashes as I did so, to find him already looking at him with a small smile playing at his bright cherry red lips. I finished buckling his belt and sat back.
Michael shifted uncomfortably in his seat, luckily we had gotten business class in the airplane, which meant that the seats were bigger and there would be no little kids to bother us. While Michael kept on trying to find a comfortable spot on the seat, I leaned back, looking at the center aisle as the flight attendant was showing the safety instructions in case of an emergency.
"Baby... babe." Michael whispered, my attention shifting from the lady in the aisle towards my boyfriend.
"What's wrong babe?" I said softly to him. His eyes were a bit wide, green and beautiful. He was pale, like he has always been, and he had a slight stubble.
"Nothing kitten." He whispered, not convincing me at all. Something is wrong, he's never like this. Did he forget something at home?
"Are you really OK? You don't look too good, Michael." I whispered the last part, leaning in a bit and laying my hand on top of his, my thumb tracing small circles on his knuckles. He gave me a warm smile and intertwined our fingers, picking up where I had left off.
"I'm just... It's the first time meeting your parents and... Uhm, do you think they'll like me?" He bit his lip and his eyes were wide, it was the most adorable look ever.
"Mikey, I've told so much already to my parents about you, I know they'll love you! Just remember: no cursing, table manners and appropriate dinner conversation." I told him with a smile.
"Aren't you supposed to tell me to be myself?" He snickered.
"Yeah, I know... if I'm honest, I'm a bit scared." I bit my lip and looked down at my lap, threading my fingers together.
"Well that's not reassuring at all." He said with a smirk.
"Its just... we'll... you're the first boy I've been in a relationship with..." I trailed off. I looked at him and he slightly nodded, encouraging me on. "... and, well, I don't know how my parents will react." I confessed.
"I'm pretty sure they're nice, they say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree right?"
The voice of the flight attendant on the overhead speaker interrupted us, "Please buckle your seatbelts, the plane will be taking off shortly."
Michael sucked in a breath, his arms tensing, his knuckles turning whiter than his already pale skin.
"Shh, babe, everything will be OK." I cood, grabbing his face with my two hands, turning his head so he would face me. I stared deep into his green eyes and smiled reassuringly. He licked his lips and blinked a couple of times; he is still scared.
"Come here," I lifted the arm rest that was between us and moved his head onto my shoulder, my hand caressing his shoulder, tracing mindless figures onto his pale skin. With my free hand I pushed his fringe away from his forehead and traced his delicate features.
"Everything will be fine, Mike, it'll be over before you know it."
"I don't like it when you call me Mike." I moved my head so I could see his face, he had the most adorable pout.
"Sorry, kitten." I laughed. "Would you like to rest?" Just when the words left my mouth, the plane started moving. I could feel his shoulders tensing underneath my arm, and I moved my hand up and down his arm, trying to put his mind at ease. The plane slowly moved towards the correct runway, it stood still for a minute. I pressed my lips onto Michael's temple, bracing him for the takeoff.
"Here we go." I heard him whisper.
The plane took on full speed, moving incredibly fast on the runway. I felt the wheels raise from the ground, my stomach dropping at the sensation of not being on solid earth anymore.
"That was a pretty smooth takeoff, wasn't it?" I asked him in a small voice.
"Ye- yeah." He said in a small voice, his lips forming the ghost of a smile.
"Good." I smiled at him.
"All I want is for the dinner with your parents to be as smooth as the takeoff."
