long day, slow night

amelias's pov:
i stared at the computer, unable to focus on the screen feeling dreadingly tired. i wanted to stop, i wanted to sleep... but i also wanted to cure parkinson's. i got up and took a slow walk around the hospital to go find kai, i needed some support, being literally unable to work and all. slowly leaving the lab, I stopped, scared to go annoy kai just because I was tired and bored. after standing there half asleep for longer than I anticipated, I finally woke up and turned the corner, stopping when I came face-to-face with kai, almost bumping into them.

"woah there shepherd" they said sarcastically, until seeing my face, realizing that I was in a bad mood, plus being unable to comprehend what they were trying to say to me.
"love, what's wrong? you look out of it, is everything okay?"
I couldn't anymore. their soft caring voice, their genuine concern. unable to stop my self, I started crying, scared and unable to express my feelings camly. they slowly held my shoulders and brought me to their chest, holding me while I cryed, slowly rubbing my back
"I'm sorry babe, i- god I'm so exhausted. I worked a really long shift, and then stupid link was busy and wanted me to watch scout even though it was his night, and he forgot Scout's favorite monkey so he was barely able to sleep. poor little guy, link told me he couldn't take scout until the afternoon, so maggie volunteered but he had a really hard time leaving me. my hotel wasn't ready yet, so I just came straight to the lab. but now my dumbass is too tired to get any work done and I don't know what to do." crap. I just unloaded all this shit on kai, who probably is tired as well and-
"I'm so sorry love. but youre hotel is ready, what are you talking about?"
"no I just checked and called they said not till-" I babbled confused until kai cut me off, chuckling
"babe, just stay at my place. you don't need to get a hotel, you're always welcome at my apartment" even though kai seemed like they needed to do some more work, they slowly lifted my lab coat off of me and put it on the chair.
"let's go darling!"
"i- "
"no"
"what?!"
"you are exhausted , you deserve to go back to my place, I'll draw you a bath and you can relax for the rest of the night, we can get takeout on the way home, or I can make whatever. you deserve to be pampered after a long and stressful week. you're amazing and im gonna drive you back to my place so you can rest.
my heart melted. I've always loved being taken care of. but most of the guys I've been with have seen me as a challenge, something to conquer, not someONE to keep safe. I got on my tip-toes to hug kai, basking in their comfortable scent that always seemed to soothe me when I was stressed. we walked to the car, while kai held my hand, swinging it back and forth while we walked.

once we got to the car, kai being chivalrous and caring, opened the passenger door for me, helping me get into the car. they gave me a kiss on the cheek before walking over to the other side, getting into the car and putting their hand on my cheek before kissing me softly on the lips, I could feel them smiling into it. adorable. as always. it was a short drive to kai's apartment, I was still half asleep walking to the door. it was until the soft jangle of their keys woke me up, and then they picked me up. I was confused at first, a little bit caught off guard by the tallness. they held on to me, making sure I was comfortable, letting me wrap my legs around their waist, like a cute little koala bear. that was what they said to me the first time I did it. we made it to the bedroom, where kai put me down on the bed, plugging in my phone for me, since it was very close to dying. they softly whispered in my ear, telling me they were gonna go start a bath for me, letting me relax for a little bit longer.

kai's pov:
it's hard to see her exhausted and in pain. I got her some sweats and a t-shirt from my closet, so she wouldn't have to change into uncomfortable work clothes after her bath. I went into the bathroom. I turned on the water. I made sure I got her favorite hair wash stuff and a toothbrush since she was gonna stay at my place, I wanted to make sure she was comfortable. once the water was done, I went to go let amelia get in when she was sitting on the bathroom counter watching me, blushing. of course. "hey love, your bath is all ready" "thank you babe, you're awesome" I love making my girl happy, seeing her smile is one of my greatest joys. i went into the bedroom sitting down on the bed, grabbing the book I was reading and flipping it open. I wanted to make sure she had privacy so that she could really enjoy her bath. I spent the next 20 minutes reading a good few chapters of my book, feeling at ease, excited to spend my first night with my girlfriend. then I heard the bathroom door  open, amelia comes out in my clothes looking beatiful as always. I invite her into bed, putting my book back onto the the nightstand and letting amelia cuddle up to me. after a few minutes of cuddling and talking, amelia fell asleep. I turned the light off, pulling the covers over us, hoping that my beatiful girlfriend gets the rest she deserves.
