kai's pov:
I've been hanging around in seattle for about a week now. it's really nice and I've enjoyed spending more time with amelia. I've met her sisters and some other coworkers and friends. that was all going great until about this morning. me and amelia were cuddling in her bed, she wasn't ready for me to sleep over yet, and I had to work last night so I drove directly from the hospital. being able to cuddle her, fall asleep next to her, and wake up looking at her perfect face makes life so much more easier. we've been together for a few weeks, and im head over heels for her. shes been hurt in the past by a lot of guys and wanted to take this relationship slowly, and that was exactly what I wanted as well. I was happy to not be in a rush to make our relationship too serious. this morning before work started out perfect. I woke next to amelia, looking at her adorable sleepy face and messy hair. we had only been asleep for about 3 hours, but we were both ready to get up and start our day. I leaned over to kiss her soft pink lips. afterclimbing out of bed, as hard as it was, I grabbed some clothes and got dressed while my girl took a shower. we both had work today but it was going to be an easy day, one where we'd be done around 7 pm. amelia got out of the shower, in some comfy clothes, before heading downstairs. I hesitated to take the first step down, and she noticed how I was feeling and stopped.

"babe, I'm sorry I know it's scary, but the only person that's done there is maggie okay? winston and mer are wat work and link and jo went camping with luna and scout so we can have some alone time today."
"thank you love, I just- are you sure you're ready for your family to see me? I'm not exactly the kind of thing you've been with in the past, I don't want you to be embarrassed."
"darling, how could I ever be embarrassed, look at you!"
"really?!"

before answering me, amelia ran down the stairs, walking straight into the kitchen, before trying to run out, scared her sister would see me, I heard amelia start talking. "I GET TO FALL ASLEEP IN KAI BARTLEYS ARMS AT NIGHT, AND YOU SUCKERS DONT HAHA!" I was shocked, I didn't even know if maggie knew if we were in a relationship. I slowly trudged downstairs scared that I would find maggie embarrassed. I can down to amelia and Maggie sitting at the counter, trying to hear what they were talking about.. "they're so cuddle, and they are most amazing kisser. they always know my coffee order and bring it to me in the mornings, and they're such a great listener.. I can't believe they want to be with m-" I smirked, hearing amelia brag about me to her sisters. I walked over to the kitchen counter, coming up, pouring some coffee for amelia. I heard Maggie get from her chair and walk over to the fridge. "so are you not gonna talk to me or-" I turned around, scared as hell, apologizing within milliseconds. "i-im so sorry, I just was not exactly expecting for amelia to be so um- proud and I wasn't sure how her family feels and everyth-" "kai, ive never seen amelia so comfortably stable and heard in a relationship. you're the first person in a long time to respect her boundaries and you make her blush whenever you walk into a room. even though I don't know everything about you, the fact that you're making amelia this happy is everything." I was just about to look up at her, to thank her for saying that... but before I knew it, she had walked up to me, embracing me in a hug. I hugged her back surprised at her immediate acceptance, looking over at amelia, anticipating her reaction. I saw her smiling, and giggling, of course. after spending a few minutes talking with maggie and amelia, we left, saying goodbye to Maggie since today was her day off. I wanted to eat breakfast in the car, so amelia drove us the short drive to the hospital. after getting there safe and sound, I started walking up, amelia running up back to me. I stopped in front of her sorta confused. before I could start walking forward I heard amelia tell me to bend down.

I was incredibly at first but then realized that what amelia wanted was a piggyback ride, something we absolutely loved doing, even at work. she jumped on my back, wrapping herself around me adorable. we walked into the hospital, immediately being greeted by mer, who was taking a walk, looking at case files on her tablet. she looked up at us, laughing at first, then smiling contently. "bartley, you must be pretty special. I don't think I've ever seen amelia shepherd ask for a piggyback ride from anyone else." curious, challenging need idea, I responded. "who do you know it was her that asked?" "kai, I always know." she walked away laughing while me and amelia kept walked, once we got to the attendings lounge. I sat down, letting amelia put her scrubs on. I had to do some videocalls for work and we decided that the attendings lounge was the best place so that I was close to hamilton in case he needed me. after a few hours, I got a text from amelia.

text messages:
ames: hey love. was gonna get some lunch, lunch date? :)"
kai: always. I'll meet you in the cafeteria in 10 minds sound good?"
ames: amazing thank you kai-nosaur!
amelia gaveme that nickname because I'm so tall and she likes to ride on my back whenever we go for walks. I hated it at first but it's pretty adorable and it's definitely made me blush and giggle a few times because of how adorable she is when she says it. I closed my laptop, do e with most of my work for the day, heading to the cafeteria. once I got there I saw amelia, she was grabbing a salad from the lunch bar, in line talking to jo. "hey kai!" "oh hey j- uhmm jo ?"
"yep, that's it!" "oh thank god, I keep getting people's names wrong!" "you're doing great, dw! anyways I gotta go. Carina's got me doing scout and this was my first break in like 6 hours lol" "haha back to being a little resident. you can do this Wilson!" "thank you Dr. shepherd" amelia giggles as jo walked away and then she turns to me.

"you can't take on a lunch date and not eat anything yourself!"
I chuckled lightly, smiling at her jokingly frustrated face. I leaned over, grabbing a bag of potato chips from the snack section turning and back, taking out my wallet. she scoffs, laughing at my choice of lunch. we are lunch for about20 mins before she was paged for some trauma surgery. she wasn't done until about 7:30pm so I made sure everything would be ready for us to leave when she was done, she had to be super tired. about an hour later, we finally walked out of the hospital, jogging to the car since it was so cold. since it was later in the day, the drive was shorter and there wasn't much traffic thank god. we got back to her house. once we got to the porch I was hesitant on what to do. I didn't want to overstay and my welcome and pulled out my phone to call an uber when she grabbed my phone out of hand.

"what are you doing ?!"
"just calling an uber to my hote-"
"uh uh. no more hotel bullshit. you're staying here. "
"wait really babe, I thought you werent ready!"
"I was trying to stop myself from rushing into spending the night with you, but the more and more the day went on, the more I looked forward to waking up to you next to me. I'm ready for this and trust me I really really want this."
I smiled at her, placing a soft kiss on her lips, before she unlocked the front door. we weren't really hungry so we decided to go to bed. I had taken a shower at the hospital before coming over and amelia didn't want me to shower so I still smelling like me. I was in bed reading when before I knew it, amelia had jumped on top of me and started tickling me. we were laughing uncontrollably rolling around in the bed until I pinned her down into the bed. holding her arms done. she looked up at me with her cute soft puppy-dog eyes and leaned up to kiss me. after kissing for about five minutes, we got under the covers. she payed on her head on my chest falling asleep quickly. before I knew it she was fast asleep, I turned off the lamp on her nightstand, kissing her forehead before drifting off with her in my arms.
