Ramona
"Mamá!" I yelled. "Why did we have to move here?"
"Ramona Francisca Garcia we have talked about this," My mother sighs. "We moved here in order to start a better life and get away from all the bad your father put on us"
"But we're not safe here either mama. The jets remember"My mom looks at me and rolls her eyes before getting up, making sure to close my bedroom door behind her.
I'm Ramona Garcia, I moved here just yesterday from Puerto Rico. Where I lived before my father had brought hell on us. I moved into an apartment complex right beside my cousins. I had missed them so much. Especially having a cousin around my age.
But we had some rivals, and I don't know why my mother would bring us here knowing about the Jets.
Our gang was called the Sharks; the Jets were probably the people we hated strongly. I never really met the Jets in person to understand what they were like.
Hours later
I heard a knock at my door. I was home alone so I didn't have much to do around the apartment. I opened the door to find Maria. She pulled me and I quickly shut the door behind me.
"I want you to meet someone," She smiles.
I found myself standing in the middle of a sidewalk on the Jets side. But then I see a group of boys walking towards us. Maria runs up to one of them, and kisses him right on the lips.
"Tony this is my cousin Ramona. Romana, this is Tony, the love of my life" She kissed him again.
I smiled at Tony and shook his hand. He seemed like a nice fit for Maria, though he's a Jet.
Tony was speaking to Maria about something but I turned my head to look at someone else. He had short hair and wore a white tank top. He was pretty honestly, and he was talking to the group.
I think Tony noticed me staring because he called his friend over.
His name was Riff. It seemed different. I've never heard anyone named that. Or I could be dumb and that's just a nickname.
"Meet Ramona. Maria's cousin. She's new to New York" Tony introduced. I blushed and shook his hand.
"Well welcome to New York Ramona" He says. His voice. It was so attractive. You just met the guy Ramona, plus it might never happen.
We talked the rest of the time. And then started walking together. I heard someone start to sing, and the group started to dance together.
Tony, Maria, and I all stayed back. I'm guessing Tony isn't a good dancer. Not to be mean.
But Riff, he can dance. He choreography was incredible. And I did something stupid.
I knew the song they were singing, it would always play in Puerto Rico even if it was American.
I learned the dance from one of my old friends. I hope she's doing okay now.
Riff and everyone was looking at me as I danced along with them. He grabbed my hand, and we danced together. As the dance was over, I ended it with a pose, then tried to catch my breath.
"That was incredible!" Maria yelled. "Ramona where did you learn that?"
"Back in Puerto Rico. My friend Alana taught me" I said. They all were still looking at me, and I knew it was time to go when the sun was about to set. Of course I had to work around the house.
"Well we better get going, we have some work to do" Maria told them as she kissed Tony again.
"It was nice meeting you guys," I say and they say it back.
"You're a dancer Riff. Incredible even" I was shocked. I wonder where he learned that.
"Well Ramona Garcia, you're an interesting one yourself. Have a nice night"And with that, we parted ways. It was nice meeting the Jets, they're not that bad.
