Slash! Swipe! The screams coming from deep within the forest kept getting louder and scarier, indicating the danger level rising with every passing second. Jin Zixuan smacked his sword, Suihua, at the shrubbery and the Twin Jades sliced their way through it, stumbling to get to the centre of the forest. Two minutes later they could hear another making his way, and Lan Xichen bumped right into Jiang Wanyin through a bush.
"Sorry."
"It's fine, get going," Jiang Cheng muttered and crashed on. He had borrowed Zidian, which made things all the easier. FLASH! All the trees in their way toppled down and the four began sprinting towards the beast. The screams and shouts became more and more audible.
A woman shrieking...
"Yanli-Jie, please, you're freaking me out, too!"
ZAP!
"Eeek, blood on my fan!"
"A-Sang?" Xichen shouted as he finally arrived.
"Long story short, I chased after San-Ge and found his men cornering Yanli-Jie here." Nie Huaisang waved his fan around the clearing to show the men he'd killed.
"How...?"
"Told you a fan's as good as a sword," he smirked, swinging the fan into the distance just like Wei Wuxian had swung it to knock out Zixuan's poisoned cup of wine. The others watched, mouths agape, as the golden fan dashed through the air, spinning uncontrollably, slashing through the skin of something huge and monstrous in the distance, before zapping back through the woods into Nie Huaisang's hand. It was covered in a blackish blood.
"Ugh, damned chameleon..." Huaisang flinched, wiping the fan on his robes.
"The beast? So it's here?" Xichen asked.
"Yes, Er-Ge. I think that's why San-Ge's men cornered Yanli-Jie all the way here."
Lan Xichen nodded and sprinted with Lan Wangji into the thicket.
CRACK-
Zidian crackled and smashed at a tree out of fury. "That bastard."
"A-Li!"
"A-Xuan!" Jiang Yanli stumbled into Jin Zixuan's arms, pale and terrified, eyes bloodshot, face streaked with tears.
"A-Jie, are you alright?"
"I'm safe, A-Cheng. A-Ling probably is, too. But A-Cheng, the beast."
"The Jades went to take care of it, I'll go now, but you?"
"I'll take her home. I'm sorry, I never should have brought you on this trip," Zixuan sulked, guilt written all over his face.
"How did you guys even get here?"
"I had to come to inspect this village and A-Li said she wanted to tag along for a break... I'm so sorry..."
"It's not your fault. That damned Yao..."
"A-Cheng, about the beast. Something you need to tell Lan Wangji when you get there."
"What is it, A-Jie?"
"It was blinded."
"Right," Nie Huaisang nodded. "One eye totally missing. I could easily injure its hind legs because of that."
"One eye missing? A-Xian!" Jiang Wanyin beamed. "Definitely his doing."
THUD! CRASH!
"Wait, why's it coming this way again?"
