"Good morning, mom!" I greeted my mom as I entered the kitchen and went up to her to kiss her cheeks with a smile plastered on my face.
"Good morning, sweetie." My mom greeted softly with the same smile as mine and planted a kiss on my forehead.
I sit on one of the stool as mom continued plating the food for breakfast, I look around and frowned as I didn't see my dad, even in the living room that is connected to the kitchen.
"Mom, where's dad?" I ask my mom as she put a plate infront of me, with a scramble egg, bacon and an avocado toast in it.
"Oh, he went to the airport to pick your sister up, she will be coming home today." My mom said as she sat next to me with her coffee and an avocado toast.
"Wait- Maria?!" I ask grinning widely and excitedly.
"Yeah, baby. Didn't she told you yesterday?" My mom ask me as she stand up again to get me a glass of milk.
"No." I said with a pout as my mom chuckled.
"Well, I bet she just doesn't want you to stay up too late getting excited for her come back." My mom said as I take a big bite on my avocado toast.
"Hmm, fair enough." I said, slightly muffled because of all the foods in my mouth, with a shrugged.
"Wait, who's gonna drive me to school?" I ask my mom who is opening her laptop beside me, probably to do something for work.
I forgot to tell you, my family is actually known by a lot of people here in L.A, well, actually all over the world. Our family is on top 3 well known business around the globe, but not many people knows about me.
And that means my family is a really busy people, but they still manage to have some time for me, and sometimes we would have a family day. Just us. And it's always the best day.
"Me, honey, I'll drive you to school. Now finish that up and get ready, I'll wait for you here." My mom said kissing my hairline but still focusing on something in her laptop.
I'm not really into their business, because, well first, I still have school, and second, I have different things that I want to do when I grow up.
I was well hidden from people, not until I turned 18, which is just 2 months ago, my family started showing me -slowly- because they don't want me to be overwhelmed, and they just introduce me when people would come here at our house, or whenever I go with them at our company here and in other countries.
And I forgot to tell you, I have heart problems. It's Dilated Cardiomyopathy, I have been diagnosed with this illness since I was 16, and we found out about this when I was 17 when it started attacking my body and I felt its symptoms, which is hard. That was last year, 2 months before my 18th birthday.
My family quickly find a donor for me, but we still need 4 months to do the surgery. They said that they need to somehow get my heart ready for the surgery, as it is a big surgery and my body might not be able to handle it as I have some other complications in my body.
My family was broken when they found out about the news, especially my big sister.
But as day goes by, our hope just get stronger and stronger that I'll survive under their watch. They hired personal nurses and doctors for me, I even have a little hospital room here at our house, so whenever my sickness will attack me, we don't need to go to hospital for me to be treated.
Back to the reality.
I finished my food and put my plates on sink then go to my room and get ready for school.
I don't really have that many friends, but, many people is nice to me. I only have one friend, her name is Sarah, she's nice, has a chocolate brown skin, with curly hair and brown eyes, some people picks on her, I don't really know why.
"Honey, are you ready?" I heard my mom shout downstairs as I put my hair in a ponytail.
"Yes mom! Just a sec!" I shouted back.
After 2 minutes, I got downstairs, with my bag and glasses, I have astigmatism, and sometimes, it's really hard to see when I don't have my glasses. And no, I don't wear make up, they feel itchy and uncomfortable.
My mom and I go to her car after she closed the front door. The gates are opened by the guards, as mom drove outside the house.
"Do you have your inhaler, honey?" My mom said as she started to make her way out of the village.
"Yes mom, got it covered." I said with a smile and thumbs up.
The drive to the school went by quickly, after my mom said her goodbye to me, she said that my sister might be the one to pick me up later, which is im excited about as we didn't see her for a month!
I'm now currently at our English lecture, with Sarah by my side.
"Okay, so we don't have enough time left. For your project, you need to interview a successful and a well-known person, you can do this until the end of the month, and whoever got something, you will be graded with a 100+ in your cards, or maybe more. Just email me if you want to ask more questions, you're dismissed." With that we all stand up and made our way out of the room.
"Hey maya, are you free later? I was thinking if maybe we can go grab dinner?" Brody, one of my classmates said with a smirk on his face, which he wears a lot and I don't even know why. He also picks on sarah everytime.
"Uhm, sorry Brody, but my sister just got home from states, maybe some other time." I politely declined with a sympathetic smile.
"Yeah, just tell when when you're free, hottie." He said and look at me from the bottom to the top, slowly as his pupils dilate.
"Hey, don't look at her like that." Sarah said sternly as she got infront of my, her 5'5 figure covering my 5'1 figure.
"Damn, could you just get out of the way sometimes? You're fucking up my plan." Brody said with a scoff as he walk away.
"Hey, why did you get mad, sar?" I asked confusedly.
"He checks you out like he's undressing you- you know what, let's just go and eat, im starving." She said and shook her head as she take a hold of my hand.
She's always like that when someone like Brody would come up to me and ask me to go out with them and look at me just like what sarah said, I guess you can say that she's protective like that.
But, for now, I just can't think of anything, besides of being with my sister, and the interview project. Which is I think will be easy, as I can just interview my family.
But, I think that's not fair, i need to work hard for this.
Maybe they have friends that I can interview.
