My parents...
I gasped, as Lee collapsed infront of me. Grabbing his arm, I tried to pull him up, but he was too heavy. I looked around desperatley, and saw that a garage door had been slightly left open. I began to drag lee along the ground, and somehow we managed to get inside safely. I closed the garage door and began to shake him.
"Lee...Lee?"
He opened his eyes and told me he was bitten. I couldn't believe it. Wouldn't believe it. How could he be?
He said I needed to...stop him from turning. I knew what that meant.
I had to kill him.
He told me to get keys, handcuffs and a gun off a trapped walker who was dressed like a security guard. I managed, and Lee handcuffed himself to the radiator. However, the walker attacked, and the handcuffs broke and came off in the fight.
I killed the walker and stood next to him, breathing heavily. He told me I had to do it now and for me to go look for Omid and Christa who would be out of town. I gulped, nodding, tears streaming down my cheeks. Finally, he said he'd miss me.
"Me too." I said, my voice wobbling.
I raised the gun, said goodbye to one of the nicest people I've ever known, and...
I couldn't do it. I couldn't kill him.
I awoke with a start, sweat dripping down my forehead. I looked around, and remembered I had gone to sleep inside a car. AJ slept beside me, blissfully unaware of how awful the world was.
I was a light sleeper, and as AJ could hardly keep watch, I only slept for five hours or so at most. I didn't need much sleep, and most of the time fear kept me awake.
I sat up and got out of the car as quietly as I could, so as not to wake him. The sun was just coming up, and I could hear birds singing sadly, mourning the dead. I shivered in the cold air, zipping up my jacket. It had been given to me by a woman called Bonnie. She'd tried to apologise about going to the lodge, pretending she was a starving woman with children, and bringing Carver and the others inside. I didn't really like Bonnie, certinley didn't trust her, but I took the jacket anyway.
That all happened months ago. I didn't know what had happened to her either. Last time I saw her was the night we left. She was going in the truck Kenny had fixed with Arvo and Mike, taking all the supplies. They said it was Kenny. That they had to get away from him. I couldn't believe they would do something like that. Without food and water we would die. What they were doing was no better than murder. Leaving the others, leaving the baby... It just wasn't right.
Mike came towards me, telling me to stay calm and to give him the gun I was holding. I threatened him, and Arvo shot me in the shoulder. Kenny and Jane ran outside, bundling me and AJ into the truck and we must have driven off, though I had passed out by this time.
I could hear AJ now. He was wimpering from inside the car. I sighed, walking back towards the vehicle, taking him out and getting a can from my pack. Baby food wasn't in short supply, thank goodness. I opened the can and got out a spoon, feeding him. Once the can was half empty, I put AJ back into the car, wrapped some cling film around the top, and put the can back into the bag.
I took out a map, unfolded it and spread it out over the car bonnet. I found where I was, and started tracing along thin paths and large roads, untill I found a place. My finger hovered over the name.
Savannah.
