HOPE

I sat in the front seat beside Dr. Saltzman as he drove us back to Mystic Falls. And by us, I mean me, Dr. Saltzman, Landon Kirby, his werewolf best friend and foster brother; Rafael Waithe, and some girl that had witnessed the entire scene unfold while in the church.

I had to admit...for a girl who had just watched a guy turn into a werewolf or a priest's mouth get magically removed...she as taking this surprisingly well. Too well. Granted...she has yet to make so much as a single sound since Rafael turned into a wolf...so...maybe she's in shock.

"We'll explain everything. We're almost there." Alaric voiced pulling me out of my thoughts. "Where are we going?" Landon asked. "Somewhere safe." Alaric answered.

"Welcome to the Salvatore School. We're your tour guides." Lizzie announced standing beside Josie. "I'm Josie." Josette stated. "I'm Lizzie. Sisters." Lizzie added. "Twins." Josie pointed out. "Fraternal. Obvs." Lizzie voiced. "Rafael, why don't you go ahead with the girls while I talk to Landon." Alaric told the werewolf. "Morning, Hope." The Twins told me. "Morning, girls." I responded. "More like despair." Lizzie muttered. "I heard that." I voiced. "No you didn't." Lizzie argued. "Didn't have to." I countered. "Everyone, behave." Alaric sounded. "Love you, Dad." The twins said walking away with Rafael. "So...let's get started." Alaric told Landon.

"Uh...Dr. Saltzman...aren't you forgetting someone?" I asked. "Oh! Right!" He said going to the SUV and opening the door for the girl. She got out and looked around in silence. Not a word. Not even a sound. "Come on." He told her. She was hesitant to move. "We're not going to hurt you." He reassured. She looked at me before taking a step forward cautiously. "There ya go." Alaric told her before slamming the door shut behind her. The girl jumped and looked at him. "Sorry!" He apologized with wide eyes. She headed into the school and looked around. "Keep an eye on her." Alaric whispered to me. "Don't have to tell me twice." I said following him and Landon inside.

We entered Alaric's office and the girl went to the window and looked outside, pressing her hand to the window gently and watching a bird fly by with a smile. I raised a brow confused.

"Uh...Ms...right ...she doesn't got a name yet. Uh...Hope?" Alaric voiced. "On it." I said walking to her. I tapped her on the shoulder and she turned around. "Why don't we come take a seat?" I asked. She smiled before nodding her head. She took a seat beside Landon and folded her hands into her lap.

I was too busy staring and watching the girl to catch the fact that Landon wasn't compelled by MG and had to be knocked out. How did I miss all that? I looked at the girl who was too busy looking at the sky outside.

"Okay...well...Miss...how about we start with who you are?" Alaric told her. The girl looked at us. She didn't answer before shaking her head. "No? Why not?" I asked crossing my arms. She lowered her head before pointing at her throat. "Your throat hurts?" I asked. She shook her head before opening her mouth and made a cutting motion across her throat and shook her head once more. "She wouldn't be able to tell us her name is she wanted to. Her vocal chords have been taken out." Alaric stated. The girl widened her eyes before pointing Dr. Saltzman and nodding her head.

"What happened to your vocal chords?" I asked. She immediately shook her head furrowing her brows refusing to explain. "It's okay. We only want to help you." Alaric told her. She looked between us before shaking her head again. "She's scared." I said. The girl looked at me. "Is someone after you?" I asked. She froze for a moment before slowly shaking her head. Yes.

"When did you lose your voice?" Alaric asked. I heard a heart rate begin to race and her breathing quicken. I knelt down beside her. "It's okay, you have nothing to be scared of." I told her. She shook her head rapidly before signing for pen and paper. "Oh! Yeah. Here." Alaric stated handing her a notepad and a pen. she speedily wrote in the notepad before handing it to me. "She didn't use to be like this." I said. "What do you mean? Did someone do this to you?" Alaric asked. She bit her lip before pointing to the pad in my hand. "Sorry." I said handing it to her. She wrote an answer down and looked up at me slowly turning the pad towards me. "She says a very very very bad man...abused her." I explained. Alaric leaned forward with furrowed brows. "Who is this man?" He asked squinting his eyes. The girl's eyes went wide rising to her feet adamantly shaking her head with worried eyes.

No! A voice sounded within my mind. I looked around before looking at the girl. "Did you just—" I started before the girl backed away in fear. "She's supernatural." I announced to Alaric. "How do?" He asked. "She just communicated with me...telepathically." I explained taking a step forward. "Who are you?!" I asked becoming suspicious of her. She backed away from me. "Hope, you're scaring her. Stop." Alaric voiced. "She's hiding something." I said. "She's terrified!" Alaric argued. "And she's supernatural!" I countered. "Hope...Calm. Down." He sounded getting to his feet. I looked at the girl before hearing her rapid heartbeat racing within her chest.

That's when I noticed the long thin scar going across her throat. She wasn't lying. She was telling the truth. Well...writing it anyways.

She looked at me with tears in her eyes before writing furiously onto the notepad and ripped the page out before throwing it at me. Here's your stupid answers, you bitch. She walked out of the room with reddened tearful eyes. "What the hell is the matter with you?!" Alaric asked me. "Me?! What did I do?!" I asked. "You just terrified the shit out of that poor girl who had very clearly been abused by some asshole who took out her vocal chords against her will!" Alaric raged. "There's something off about her." I argued. "Hope, you go to a fucking school filled with magical supernatural kids. And this girl just so happens to not be able to speak and telepathically communicates with you and you lose your fucking marbles. Jesus Christ, Hope." He said before leaving to go after the girl.

I looked down at the crumpled up piece of paper before a tear drop fell onto the paper.

I was raped by that same very bad man. And my name is Calliana, you insensitive bitch.

I lowered my head and let out a sigh. "Dammit, Hope." I whispered to myself.
