One. Only one. The egg glistened in the sunlight, odd swirls with silver plastered to the shell. This dragonet held nothing. Nothing but a mistake. How could she live normally, with her mother glaring at the unborn dragonet?
"I'll never be part of your life. You'll only know me as another LeafWing; Pitcher."
In response, the egg cracked, and a small snout poked through. The LeafWing gasped, all her rage and anger from her mate, who abandoned her, and his unknown daughter. I should've known. A lying, manipulative lion-heart. His deep, dark blue gaze swept her heart away. He used it to his advantage, doing nothing but rely on her, and need her. And now, this was her punishment. To live with the face of abandonment. She got up, grabbing thick ferns, and leaves. I won't let her die.. it wasn't her fault. By now, the dragonet had its head out, and shortly after, when she finished the makeshift nest, she was out. She stifled a small gasp. Her eyes! The small lighter shade of midnight blue... she let out a snarl and flew off into the foliage, leaving the dragonet alone.《 Chapter One 》
The sunlight was awfully bright. It's beautiful. She spread out her two leaf-shaped wings, yawning. She frowned. She could hear approaching talonsteps, and three dragonets her age appeared below the medium sized tree, glaring. They all sneered, giggling with eachother before turning back up to her.
"You're such a weirdo-snout, Ashpen!" Sneered the bulky one, Euph.
She growled. They were making fun of her odd head, which she didn't even know why it was the way it was. It made her angry, since Euph was odd, as well. He had odd horns, curled, yes, like a LeafWings, though they were pointy. His mom fell in love with a HiveWing! Fool thinks IM the weird one. HiveWings can't even be trusted! She glowered down at him, and snorted.
"Says the half-HiveWing!" She called, and flinched as he flew up, and pinned her to the thick foliage. The other two friends weren't paying attention, and his eyes were oddly filled with hurt.
"Sap, I didn't mean it. It's those two.. I can't let them fall under the pitcher-plant. Please, just.. try? I'm trying to get them onto another dragonet." He mumbled.
She glanced up at him, bewildered. Why's he talking to me like this? The fool! Though, she nodded slowly, a shy, fake smile creeping her muzzle. He flew off, and snickered to the others, and left one last glance to her before disappearing. She glanced up at the sunlight filtering on her scales. Maybe it's the sunlight messing with my head, but surely Euph isn't in LOVE with me?The day had crept on like a stalking lion. The cicadas began to chirp away, talking about how they survived yet another day in this bizarre world. She stretched, arched her wings, and flew down to her home, woven into the tops of the trees. She liked it up there, to be honest. No other dragons to disturb her! Though, when she entered, she found a small parrot, which jumped at first glanced, though eased up at the sound of more wingbeats. A dragonet clumsily made his way through, mumbling sorry a thousand times.
"This idiot bird likes to cause trouble." The dragonet crowed, sighing miserably.
She merely nodded, watching him fly off. An odd whispering crept into her mind, like the sound of light rain. Reaching towards the golden light... we must grow.
She looked around wildly, and she glanced up. Nobody was here, whispering to her. So what had that been? She suddenly lost her breath. The trees! She had learned about LeafWings power in school; Leafspeak. It was when a LeafWing could control plants, make them grow, even. She flexed her talons. Trees..? Can you hear me?
Golden drizzle.. The trees whispered back.
Stop talking to me!.. Please? She added, hesitant.
The trees whispering stopped, growing to nothing more than the soft breeze of the wind. Her heart swelled, threatening to break from her chest. She was special! She had Leafspeak! She glanced outside her home, drawing in the night scents. She rested her head on her talons, and fell asleep; dreaming of the plants making her a throne.
