Chapter 7

Carol: So it all works because of this magic ring? Ha, ha.

Green Lantern (Izuku): No, there's no such thing as magic. Intergalactic green peacekeepers, thousands of them.

Carol: Ha, ha.

Green Lantern (Izuku): But, no. I'm not making this up. Momo is a part of this as well since a ring chose her as well.

Carol: I mean, when we were kids, who'd have thought?

Green Lantern (Izuku): I did, actually. I called this early on.

Carol: Ha-ha-ha.

Green Lantern (Izuku): Growing up wanting to be a hero, I came up with a lot of stupid ideas. I said, "One day I'll be a green space cop." Here I am.

Carol: Okay, so at the party, how did you make that big green ramp thing?

Green Lantern (Izuku): Anything I see in my mind, I can create. I just have to focus.

Carol: Anything?

Green Lantern (Izuku): Anything.

To prove it, he constructs a necklace around her neck.

Green Lantern (Izuku): Happy birthday. Better late than never. Momo is getting the actual necklace for you just want to see how it looks on you.

Carol: Um... Okay, so how does it work? They just, um, call you on your cell, "Cat in a tree, downtown Milky Way"?

Green Lantern (Izuku): No. I don't think it works exactly like that. Well, technically speaking, um... I actually sort of, uh... quit.

Carol: What do you mean? How?

Green Lantern (Izuku): Well, I mean, it's a lot like quitting anything else, really. 

Carol: I don't understand. How do you walk away from something like that? Is that even possible? 

Green Lantern (Izuku): Oh, I think we both know I'm pretty good at walking away.

Carol: If for once you didn't quit something you cared about... What's the worst that could happen?

Izuku didn't answer and instead carried Carol back to her office using his ring.

Carol: Well, thank you. This has been really something. 

Green Lantern (Izuku): I know I've made a lot of mistakes--

Carol: Look, Izuku, I'm not mad at you. I feel bad for you, really. You've been given so much so often. And you just... 

She stops.

Carol: Good night.

She walks away and leaned against the wall as Izuku flies off. However, someone watched him leave. That someone was Dr. Hammond.

Dr. Hammond continues to study his blood to see that it's changing rapidly. The door to the science building opens and coming in was Waller with two agents.

Waller: Dr. Hammond? There's something I'd like to show you. Something I'm fairly certain you'll want to see.

She tries to get his attention, but then Dr. Hammond grabbed her hand and witnessed her past. When her family was murdered.

Hammond: Physical contact accesses mnemonic data. I can see your memories.

In the secret lab, Dr. Hammond was met by his father, who couldn't believe the change in his son.

Hammond: Dad.
