It's nearly the end of the day. Last day until winter break. My teacher is going on and on about some subject I couldn't give less of a shit about.
My pen twirled between my fingers as the clock ticked by slowly.
Then the bell rang.
"Okay, goodbye, class. Have a good Christmas." My teacher said.
Most of the class eagerly sprinted out the door as soon as the bell rang.
I started shoving my notebook and pen into my bag when Joe Tazuna walked up to me.
"L/N!!!" He sang my name. "What are you doing on Christmas?"
"Tazuna... I told you, you can just call me Y/N."
"Okay, Y/N, you call me Joe, too." The way he said my name sent chills down my spine.
"Alright, Joe. What was your question, again?"
"What are you doing on Christmas?"
I zipped up my bag. "Well, my parents are on a work trip in America until January, and I have no siblings or money, so I'll probably just... sleep or watch Christmas movies?"
Joe's mouth dropped. "You're kidding."
"...What?"
"That is the saddest shit I've ever heard."
"...Thanks, Tazuna."
"Joe."
"Thanks, Joe."
I walked past him and out of the classroom door. "Y/N, wait!" He caught up to me and walked beside me.
"Yes?" I sighed.
"So, you don't have any plans on Christmas?" He confirmed.
"...That's correct."
"Cool! Would you like to hang out with me, then?"
"What?"
"Well, Sara and Ryoko invited me to go to this Christmas lights thing."
"And they're dating, right?" I asked.
"Yes. Knowing that I just— I just knew I'd end up being the third wheel, y'know?" He explained. "So, I was wondering... if you'd like to come with us?"
We were stopped outside the school building now.
"Did all your other friends already turn you down?" I asked.
"What? No. I haven't even asked anyone else. Sara just invited me, like, five minutes ago."
"But why did you ask me?"
"Because I think you're cool! And I'd like to get to know you better... and we're friends, right?"
Oh, my god. He is the sun.
"Sure, I'd... I'd love to." I answered.
And he smiled so brightly. His face was lit up.
"Oh! Yes! Cool! Okay! This is gonna be great!'
But despite his brightness, the rain still came.
Like, literally. It started pouring rain (You don't think I'm gonna write angst in a fuckin Christmas one shot, do you? 😭).
"Oh— shit." I mumbled, unzipping my bag to look for my umbrella.
I took it out this morning.
"No umbrella?" He asked. I nodded my head, zipping my bag back up.
