I was wearing a cream-colored dress with a v-line at the back, I paired it with the same color heels and wore my hair up I left two curls undone so that they dangled over my forehead.

My make-up was done ever so lightly, since I was done I grabbed my purse and walked downstairs. Dom was in bed already so I locked the door behind me.

I drove off to the location that Mr Martinez sent me. I stopped in front of a tall gate and a guard came walking around my car.

"Joan Gibbs, I'm here to see Mr Martinez," I said when the guard lifted a single eyebrow at me.

He lifted his hand which held a small device, I made a straight face and the guard scanned my face, it beeped once with a little green light. Then the gates opened so I slowly drove through them.

Inside was a big mansion with a big pool. A water fountain stood in front of the house and lights decorated the house which only added to the fancy look. I parked in the parking lot and carefully got out of the car.

I went to the front door and as I was about to knock the door swung open, revealing a woman seemingly in her mid-thirties.

"You must be Joan." She said with a beautiful smile on her face.

"And you must be the beautiful Cara Martinez," I replied friendly.

She pulled me into the house and gave me a big hug. The house was beautiful inside, the fire was going in the chimney and the glass walls were out of this world, I couldn't help but stare.

"Ah, Joan!" I heard from behind me and found Mr Martinez with open arms. I walked into them and gave him a quick hug. "Joan meet Kelly." He said and my eyes went down to the prettiest little girl.

"She's so pretty." I gasped a little. I picked her up and placed her on my hip before following her mom to the kitchen. I think she's about three years old.

She had her dad's blue eyes and her mom's blonde hair. She's just the cutest little thing, I love small children.

"Be careful with that one Joan, she's one of the world's deadliest beings." Mr Martinez teased and the little girl giggled.

"No Daddy, I'm the best." She said cutely and I just wanted to eat her up.

"Can I keep her?" I asked and Mr Martinez just chuckled. Cara was watching me carefully. I mean I get it, I'm a total stranger and now I'm having dinner with her family.

"How do I know you won't kill us? Or if you won't give us to your boss on a silver platter?" She asked with a challenging look on her face.

"Well, usually they don't make it past the first meeting," I said and Mr. Martinez burst out into a fit of laughter, soon after I joined him.

"Good one, Joan." Mr Martinez said.

"Nope now that I heard what I just said it sounds kinda messed up," I said softly.

"Yeah, but you gotta admit that was funny." He said and I chuckled a little.

"Okay Joan, maybe you're not trying to kill us, I'm sorry for interrogating you like this it's just we've received so many death threats and I'm just worried about my little girl." She said and I could trace the slight Italian accent in her voice.

"I won't kill you, and I won't give you to my boss, I've seen what he's capable of," I said softly.

"Well let's have dinner then." She said with a soft smile on her face. She's very confusing. How do I know that she won't kill me?

"Joan we're having a masquerade ball tomorrow night, we'd love for you to come." She said after a while before briefly looking over at her husband.

"I mean I'd love to," I said slowly and noticed that Mr Martinez's jaw was clenched.

"What's wrong?" I asked him and he sighed before looking at me.

"Louis will be there." He said carefully and it felt like a bucket of ice water was thrown on my head.

"We'll all be wearing masks and costumes he won't even know it's you and vice versa." Cara smartly said and we just stared at her with our mouths agape.

"Were you like a spy?" I asked her and she shook her head.

"Same as you, Vincenzo told me about what you do for a living. I know what it's like Joan and what goes along with it. And I would love it if we could help you get out." She said kindly. "I hope I'm not speaking out of my turn." She added.

"No, it's okay. It's just I never pictured you as a-"

"Seductress?" She asked.

"Yeah," I said slowly and we both giggled, Mr Martinez sat back in his seat and stared at us in wonder.

"How did I get this lucky? I have my beautiful wife by my side and my two daughters." Mr Martinez said and I felt my heart swell in my chest. "You are like a daughter to me Joan." He added and I smiled at him.

"And you are very much like the father I never had," I said silently. "Thank you for everything, sir."

"No, call me Vincenzo." He said casually.

"You don't wanna be called Zio? Fine, I'll call you Vincenzo." I teased and the couple laughed at me.

After dinner, we ate dessert. We talked until midnight and when the third bottle of wine was finally empty Cara decided to let one of their chauffeurs drive me home.

I opened the door to our house as softly as I could. I slipped into the house and closed the door behind me.

"Why are you creeping like a cat woman in the middle of the night?" Dom's voice sounded around me and I screamed before holding a hand to my chest.

Dom was sitting at the kitchen island with a bowl of ice cream in his hand. Why is he always sitting in the dark?

"Are you serious?!" I asked in disbelief and he smirked at me.

"Of course I am. I don't know why I still surprise you. I do this like every time." Dom said and I rolled my eyes at him.

"Well you know I don't like surprises." I retorted and Dom smiled sheepishly. "You do it on purpose so that you can laugh about it later on," I said and he just shrugged.

"What do you expect me to do? Sleep? Like a normal person? Girl, I've got breakup insomnia, can I sleep with you tonight?" He asked and I groaned.

"Fine!" I said and Dom excitedly clapped his hands together.

"You didn't have sex or anything right?" Dom asked with a scrunched-up face. "Because that would be disgusting." He continued.

"Who would I have had sex with?" I asked and only then did I realize what I had said.

"Your boyfriend. His name is Blake." Dom said and my eyes widened.

"Right! But no, we were surrounded by people all night long so we decided to not." I said in an unsure voice.

"You're acting weird tonight but let's just blame that on the alcohol," Dom said. "See you upstairs bitch." He said before disappearing upstairs.

Dom has night terrors when he's going through a breakup and now I have to suffer. But it's great! He kicks me under the blanket and I kick him back while he's asleep. It works out for both of us.
