Her arms are my safe place

It was a day like all the others. Maya just finished her shift at work and couldn't wait to get home to her wife. She was packing her stuff, until she hears a familiar voice calling her name. She gets goosebumps.

<<Maya>>

This voice came from an older male she knew too well. The tone of his voice was quite mad. Maya turns around and sees him. Her father was standing there.

<<What are you doing here?>> she asks intrigued.

<<I'm here to ask you what the hell YOU are doing>>

<<excuse me?>> she said. Maya wasn't understanding. She hasn't spoken to him since two years now.

<<I heard things about you.>>

Maya was confused, but she didn't want to ask more.

<<Your mother told me that you are about to become a "mom">>

Maya did like the way he said "mom"

<<This is none your business. Now please go.>> she says while continuing packing her stuff. Damn mom was iylt necessary for him to know this? She talked to herself.

<<Oh I believe it is. You are my daughter, my number one champion, even if you keep avoiding me, I feel the need to protect you.>>

<<Protect me? From what? From happiness?>> she asked.

<<From this illusion.>> he said.

Maya wasn't understanding, to be honest she didn't want to understand but the words came out of her mouth anyway.

<<what do you mean?>>

<<well tell me, are you pregnant?>> he asked with a voice tone that just made her blood boil.

She now understood what it was about. It's about this baby not being biologically hers.

<<blood doesn't mean anything>> she answers avoid eye contact with him.

<<What the hell happened to you Maya, you weren't like this time ago. Now first the marriage to a woman and now a baby you claim to be the mother of. There's nothing connecting you with this child. I don't know what this woman [Carina] ever says or did to you to make you think that you are into this as much as she is. That is not your child>>

<<ok that's it GET OUT OF MY SIGHT NOW.>> she screams the tears she held through the whole conversation started coming down her face.

Ben and Jack, who heard her screaming immediately came checking

<<Maya what's wrong?>> he asks before seeing her Dad

<<There's the door sir, you're pleased to go out, now.>> says Jack is a calm voice.

<<come with me Maya>> says Ben putting his right arm on her shoulders.

<<Everything is alright ok? he's not her anymore, whatever he told you, don't listen to him. I'm here for you if you need someone to speak too>> Ben comforts Maya

<<Thanks a lot>> she says while wiping her tears and smiling at him

<<I'm going now. See you tomorrow>>

All Maya could think about was her dad and all he said. "that is not your child" why couldn't her father just let her me happy for once?

She finally got home. She can hear Carina's voice getting louder and clearer the closer the came to the her.

<<I made the cookies you->>she was talking with a cute smile until she noticed something wrong with her. She could see that she cried

<<Maya what happened??>>she said thinking that something might have happened to someone of 19.

<<My dad came by>> her eyes become lucid again. <<he said some nonsense, but it still made me feel so bad and its not truly because of what he said, but because he doesn't want me to be happy>> she starts sobbing.

Carina went straight to her and hugged her as strong as she could, placing one hand on her had, and the other on her head. <<Bambina it's fine, I'm here now>>

Maya was feeling so safe in her arms. They hugged for two minutes straight. As soon as Carina noticed that she stopped crying, she slightly stepped back. She put her hands on her cheeks and looked at her in the eyes. Their noses were touching.

<<Are you feeling a little better?>> she calmly asked.

Maya sniffed. <<yeah it do>>

<<okay then, why don't you come with me, I baked the cookies you like so much>> she says while still holding her wife's face.

she smiles <<yeah let's go.>>
