This is just a small AU based off of The Tomorrow War.
In this AU, Rocket is the captain of the resistance against an The White Spikes and Gobie, being his best friend, is his second in command.

When he was 18, the year The White Spikes first appeared, Rocket and his mom, Rivet, were fighting them off. The Alpha White Spike was behind Rocket, about to kill him, but Rivet pushes Rocket out of the way, taking the fatal hit to the chest by a poisonous spike.
Rocket was horrified and vengeful for his mom's death and he immediately lunges at the White Spike, thus losing his arm and his eye.
Rocket is now 30 and is still moping over what happened 12 years ago. He wears his mom's arm and scarf as a memory but also as a harsh reminder of who he was, a weak teen who couldn't even save his mother.
Gobie was always by his side, though recovery, though grief, and though stress from training his troops, along with "idiots from the past", including his own parents. Gold (Rocket's nickname for Gobie) is always there to keep him calm before he may go on a raging killing spree and is willing to do anything for him even if it means to die for it.
He shows his loyalty by saying, "We ride together, we die together!"
