We walked toward the same house we both had been taken to by the guys that tried to kill us or something. We were finally able to realize that they just wanted to find out how to cure the illness. I can infer that they have lost people that were important to them too, and still believed there was a cure for them. Lucas and I decided that we were gonna help them and if that means sacrificing our lives for the health and safety of the human kind, that's what we'll do. When we reached the front door, we knocked. But nobody answered, so we knocked again, and that led to another no answer, so we knocked once more. But still no answer. "They must have moved on since you knee where they were" Lucas said. "Yeah, I guess so" I mumbled. My hopes of finding a way for my parents to be "normal" again had just disappeared. I suddenly burst out crying. *sob* *sob* "Umm, its okay, everything will be alright. There there" he patted my back awkwardly. "How can you say that?! *sob* The chances of saving *sob* everyone are *sob* ruined!" I shouted. "Jeez, Vie calm down" he said. "We will find them, but by the looks of it they'll try an find us first" he said in an attempt to calm me. "Your probably right, I'm over reacting either they find us or we find them" I said making a gesture with my fist.
We headed home, or at least that's what it is for now. I couldn't help wondering how the world would be if The Zaunt had never been created. If half the human race wasn't gone. If the flares had never ocurred. If my parents weren't dead. If I was "normal". What if I wasn't immune? Would I have survived this far?
"Hey, what are you thinking about?" Lucas asked walking ahead of me and turning around. "You look dazed".
"Oh, just you know common thinking" I said dismissing him. "Not much to think about anyways".
"Okay then" he said and turned around once more.
When we finally reached the house it was already sunset. Lucas and I both agreed that we'd call it a night and head out again tomorrow at first light. After that short conversation I quickly went upstairs and closed my room door. I was about to settle into bed when I heard a thumping noise downstairs. It was probably just Lucas anyways, but something told me it wasn't. I silently tiptoed down the flight of stairs.
"Lucas, is that you ?" I shouted when I reached the bottom. Nothing answered, I was starting to get nervous. "Lucas?..."
".............." There was absolutely no answer. I couldn't take it. I entered the kitchen in a quick rush. "Luc- ".
"I wanted to surprise you" he said gesturing to the table. It was decorated with two candles that made the dark room dim. Behind them was a neatly prepared dinner.
"Where di- " he stopped me before I could even finish asking.
"I had some supplies left, now no more questions" he pulled a chair from the table. "Let's eat".
I gave him a dazzling smile, but did I really want a relationship? I mean, we are in an apocalypse. Would it really be convinient? A relationship would distract me from what is really important. Survival. I picked at my food no longer hungry.
"You seem quiet, what's wrong?" He asked.
"What does this mean Lucas?" I asked. "I barely just met you a couple of days ago, how can we have a relationship? THIS would be a distraction" I said immediately regretting my words.
"I see..." He said quietly. He stood up from his chair suddenly and walked toward me. He took my hand and pulled me until I was standing up. The next thing I knew his lips were on mine. We kissed softly at first but then more intensly. My hands wrapped around his neck and his arms pulled me by the waist closer. When we finally stopped it was to catch our breath.
"Is this a distraction?" He said smiling. In that moment I made up my mind, we were meant to be.
