Anella's POV
The lecture hall is virtually silent except for the clitter-clatter of fingers on keyboards and the occasional whisper. The professor is quietly humming to himself as he pulls up his presentation on his laptop. Just then my phone vibrates and it's audible to about five people in my proximity. One of them eyes me until I finally pull it out of my bag and decline the call.
It was a call from Marvin. If that wasn't enough, he'd sent me two text messages, one of which that read: hey now baby, let me take you out? can we try this again? your a gem. all i want is u girl, only u. I can't help but note his grammatical error. I also can't help but roll my eyes. Does he honestly think I'll read this text and blush wildly because he called me a gem?
I sigh heavily and drop my phone into my bag. I'm not sure why, but I thought Harry would be the one texting me, not a deranged guy I met at the laundromat. If he didn't have the most beautiful blue eyes I'd ever seen maybe I would have been wise and given him a fake number. Now I'm sort of worried about his persistence. What if he knows where I live? I blink rapidly several times as if that would filter such thoughts out of my mind.
Twenty minutes into the presentation, my phone vibrates again. Thankfully the professor doesn't hear it. I'm fuming, as I feel around in my bag for my phone. "Damn it, Marvin can't you leave a girl be..." I mutter to myself.
Much to my surprise, it's a call from Harry. Unfortunately, I have to decline it because there are at least fifteen minutes left of this lecture. I'm smiling a little too much at the sight of Harry's name on top of my call log and the girl sitting a row above from me leans down and whispers, "Is that your boyfriend calling?"
I hardly know her name and she's being rather nosy. I simply nod in response and she giggles a little. "I don't even think we've formally met, I'm Beatrice."
"Hi Marie, I'm Anella," I mumble, trying quite hard to mask my disinterest.
"Cool. So um, Anella, I sorta missed Tuesday's lecture so I..." She begins.
"You want to copy my notes? Is that it?" I interrupt. I attempted to not come off as rude but I failed and now I feel sort of bad.
Marie isn't affected and just expresses her gratitude as she waits for me to hand her the notes. I rummage through my folder and hand her the notes. She takes a few pictures and gives them back. "Yo Anella, I gotta say, your notes are the best I've ever seen. So thorough too..." Beatrice says out of the blue.
"Thanks," I reply simply. My only fear is that Beatrice will start to get a little too comfortable with missing lectures because she probably supposes she can just get the notes off of me every time.
"Alright that's all the time we've got for today, remember there's a paper due next Friday," The professor tells to us.
I let out a sigh of relief and make my way out of the lecture hall. I call Harry back as I'm heading over to my car.
"Hey," I say once he picks up.
"Hey," He says in his beautifully deep voice. "So um, I used the key you found..." He begins to tell me all about his and Leo's strange and eventful encounter yesterday. "But that's not the only reason I called you..." He adds.
"Really?" I question.
"Yeah, I just wanted to know if you'd accompany me to the um cemetery...?" He asks with a hint of shyness as if he's asking me to dinner, which he hasn't yet but I'd like him to.
"Is this a date?" I joke.
"If you want it be," He says and his confidence is so appealing to me. I don't know how to respond so I just laugh a little and he does too.
