You knew today was going to be a big day. To most, it might seem like an average Tuesday, but to your school's drama club, it was audition day.

It was September. School had just started two weeks prior, and your classes weren't too hard. The fall play would be put on in early December, before Christmas break. That gives a solid two and a half months for casting, line reading, rehearsals, set building, prop gathering, the whole nine yards. Theater was a big production, and you were all for it.

Acting meant a lot to you. It was a place where you could really come out of your shell. Being up on a stage, while terrifying for some, was freeing for you. You'd tried out for all the plays in your freshman year, and never got cast as more than a supporting character. Being a sophomore, this would be your fourth show with the school.

It was a production of the recently popularized play, "A Dream for Me." It revolved around two characters, Yun and Tubbo, in a nation that was being threatened to be blown to the center of the Earth. A tragic love story. It was a good play.

Of course, you'd be trying out for the part of Yun. Considering your track record, you weren't sure if you'd get it. But it's worth a shot, right? Plus, some seniors had graduated last year, meaning more room for leads for the rest of the drama department.

School was...fine. It was always just fine. You didn't really have any true friends at this school, only acquaintances, and today was one of the days where you had a weird lunch time, with no one there you were even remotely friends with. Your best friends were miles away, at another school. The move was tough, but you still kept in touch. Indi and Tess were never more than a phone call away.

Now, you nervously sat in the auditorium, watching as audition after audition went by. The supporting roles went first, like Niki, Fundy and Sapnap.

Now the companion role of Tommy auditioned. You knew Bruno would probably get it. He fit Tommy's description and could act with emotion.

Then the antagonist, Dream. Because a mask was worn, this role could be played by any gender. This role was pretty contested.

You were startled by the drama director, Mrs Exdee, called out, "Auditions for Yun? Please step onto the stage.

You nervously stood up. Three other girls also stood up. You weren't worried about the freshmen that were trying to audition. You were worried about Chloe.

Chloe Block was a junior, and a favorite of Mrs Exdee. She'd gotten the lead female role in all of the plays in the previous year. One problem: she was mean. And never shared her spotlight. Even as a supporting role last year, she never let you near her props, and always demanded the best makeup artist and hair stylist, taking their time away from working on the other actors just to make tiny tweaks at Chloe's request that no one would see from the audience.

The two freshmen each went first. They did alright, but they could use some practice. Chloe demanded to go next, "Mrs Exdee, may I audition next please?" she asked, making the most fake expression you'd seen. "Of course, Chloe! Go right ahead."

She made her way onto the stage and into the light, and you saw a few of the other people in the room staring at her with awe. She read the lines on the page with way too much drawl for who Yun was supposed to be, making her sound more like a villain's, but Chloe was convincing enough that several people stood up and clapped wildly. Mrs Exdee praised her as she did the others and wrote down in her notebook.

"Anyone else?" Mrs Exdee asked. You timidly raised your hand and walked up the stage to the stage. "Y/N! Glad you could audition. You may begin when you're ready."

You felt Chloe staring at you. But no, you didn't get stage fright. You took a deep breath, and threw the page of lines on the ground. That was your talent. Memorization. You'd only received the lines the day before, and you'd studied the play in depth as well, preparing for this moment.

You delivered Yun's lines with as much emotion as you could muster. The scene was towards the end of the play, with Yun's final vow to her love. You channeled all of your energy into the part, putting yourself into the role, and making each word count.

Mrs Exdee was stunned. She clapped and said "Brilliant, Y/N!" The rest of the audience loosely clapped. Chloe just rolled her eyes in disgust.

You took a bow and left the stage, becoming your timid self again as you walked back to your seat. Mrs Exdee resumed the audition process, calling for auditions for the lead male role, Tubbo.

You saw three boys walk up to the stage. They all did fairly well, and it was probably going to be close. It was between a senior, junior and sophomore, the sophomore being the only one you knew by name: Toby Smith.

Toby was fairly nice. You knew him from your history class but you'd never talked directly. You knew nothing of the other guys who auditioned.

At the end of auditions, Mrs Exdee announced that callbacks would be announced tomorrow and held on Thursday, and that each with a callback could stop by during or after school tomorrow to pick up their lines. Everyone started packing up and leaving. Chloe said a very drawn out thanks to Mrs Exdee, then cut you off in the narrow aisle as you were about to leave.

"E-excuse me," you said.

Chloe whipped around to face you, "Oh, it's only you. That was quite the audition. I'm sure you'll land the role..." Chloe said.

You were stunned, "T-than—"

"...in the stage crew," Chloe finished with a laugh and strutted away.

Typical. It's show business, after all.

Hey guys! I'm back with a new story! I won't reveal the full plot of the play until the end of the story, because yes. But I can say that it will be a majorly edited version of Tubbo's presidency of Manburg, from his inauguration up until the Doomsday War.

Idk the pace of releasing this story. I was planning on speedrunning it over winter break but then my laptop died and I'm a lot slower on mobile. So just follow me and put this story in your reading list if you want to be notified when I update.

Anyways, happy holidays to all and have a great day/night!
