Anxiety. That's all you felt for the morning and most of the school day. You were just waiting for your worst fears to be confirmed. That Chloe would get the part she doesn't even deserve.

Mrs Exdee had said the first reading would take place next Monday. So you at least had the weekend to absorb the essence of the part you were cast as, and get familiar with some of your lines.

You walked down the hallway in the direction of the auditorium. You saw Chloe stomping away from it. She noticed you, then gave you the meanest scowl you have ever seen.

"Part-stealing b*tch" she whispered, which only you could hear.

Well, that was a good sign.

Once Chloe had passed you, you ran the last 20 feet to the auditorium door. You looked at the piece of paper taped to the wall.

A Dream for Me Official Cast List

Tubbo - Toby Smith

Yun - Y/N L/N

Dream - Chloe Block

You felt pure happiness.

You were so happy that you literally jumped up and down in the middle of the hallway. You didn't care if anyone saw. You got the lead!

Well, you felt like you deserved it. You worked hard for that part. From what you saw in the first auditions, Chloe did not deserve the part of Yun. And you could see her being Dream. She had that...quality to her. She could pull off being evil.

After all, like calls to like.

For now, you wrote multiple caps-locked texts to Indi and Tess. They immediately spammed back their congratulations to you and wished you luck. They even offered to run lines with you over video chat. You agreed to do it tomorrow, which was Saturday.

You practiced your lines all weekend, and your friends helped you online too, with cues and transitions, or emotions between lines.

Overall, it was a good weekend. You got a lot of progress and had gone through all your lines at least once. You knew Yun's emotional map, and you knew how to express those emotions. You knew the story of Yun's life better than your own.

The following Monday, you walked into the auditorium after class. It was filled with all the students who had gotten cast for the twelve roles in the play, plus a few stage crew members and some background and backup actors. Mrs ExDee was there, flipping through her massive binder containing all the notes for the play. She came to attention as you walked in, "Oh, Y/N! Welcome! Why don't you sit next to Toby? We're going to start our line reading soon."

You greeted Mrs ExDee and sat down next to Toby. He was clutching his packet of lines, staring off into space. He came out of his daze at the mention of his name. You politely greet him, "Hi Toby! Congrats on getting the lead! I'm super happy for this project."

Toby stutters, "Y-Yeah. A-And congrats, you also got a lead! I'm...really happy to be working with you."

Before you could dissect exactly what he meant by that, Chloe walked into the room and demanded, "I'm here, Mrs ExDee. Let's get on with it."

She sat in her seat with the most arrogant expression, simply crossing her legs and waiting for Mrs ExDee to get started. Mrs ExDee gathered herself, then announced, "Okay! Let's start by getting into character. Try to really imagine yourself in their shoes, think about their experiences. How would your character react to a situation? How would they talk to one another? Take a deep breath, and really absorb their essence."

You closed your eyes, manifesting Yun's character. You took some deep breaths, and prepared to give the best first reading Mrs ExDee could ever hear.

Mrs ExDee started speaking again, "Okay. The first scene begins with Tubbo, Yun and Tommy. Fundy, Niki, Quackity and Philza, you are all on deck, so stay focused for your cues. And, action!"

Mrs ExDee always talked to everyone with their characters' names instead of their own during rehearsals. You thought it was a good strategy.

Bruno, who was playing Tommy, started reading his first lines. You waited for your cue, and delivered your lines near perfectly. Toby was pretty good at it too, once he got over some initial nerves.

As you progressed through the play, everyone got more of a feel for their characters. Well, except Chloe. She was being her sassy, standoff-ish, Chloe self. This happened to work well for Dream's character, but you could tell it was just Chloe's actual personality.

You did manage to get through all five acts of the play within two hours. There weren't as many dramatic pauses as there would be in the actual play, since you were only rehearsing the lines themselves. Mrs ExDee didn't make any edits yet, but she usually doesn't until the second or third rehearsal.

After a glare from Chloe on her way out, you were about to grab your stuff and leave, until you heard a voice beside you.

"H-hey, Y/N? I was wondering if I could maybe have your number? T-to run lines! I thought we could rehearse with each other sometime," Toby asked.

"Sure, Toby! It would be really helpful to run lines together, since our characters will be in the most conversations together." You handed Toby your phone and he plugged in his phone number. You texted back a smiley face to make sure he had your number, then he gave you a thumbs up and you waved goodbye.

That was a good rehearsal. Nothing suspicious happened. Nothing at all.

Hey everyone. I'm honestly running out of energy and motivation for this story. I'm a college student with way too much on her plate, so I barely have time to write anyways. I actually can't relate as well to Y/N in this story, which usually helps me to write them. I'm just in a different phase in my life than Y/N is, so I have to stretch further to really find her character. Also this particular book is more work than I expected, since I'm also planning on writing the entire play and publishing that, too.

This story is on an indefinite hiatus from me. However, if a fellow author would like to adopt this story, DM me! I would love for this story to be shared; I just can't write it myself.

That's all for now. Have a good day!
