What exactly am I?

I look back at the mirror, flabbergasted. What in the world is going on here?!
"Mina, why don't you sit down. We'll explain everything to you." Says TJ from behind me. I look at him in the mirror. He has changed back into his regular form and so has everyone else. Probably to make me more comfortable. I nod slowly. He puts his hand on my shoulder and guides me to the nearest chair as I stare blankly at the floor. He sits me down and then something is thrust into my line of site. I look up. Yosei is holding out a mug of hot chocolate too big for her tiny hands making her look even smaller. I smile and take it.
"Thanks." She smiles and skips over to where Koneko sits on the floor. She obviously doesn't bother to hide her cat-like tendencies even in her human form.
"So, what exactly are you? Or should I say we? If I am one of whatever you guys are. What did you call yourselves? Anomalies?" TJ nods. His sits on the edge of a table across from me holding a coke.
"Let's start at the beginning."
"Please."
"A few years ago there was a scientist who worked in this building. His name was Takahashi Mitzuki." Mitzuki?
"Isn't that Ayano's last name?" I ask. He nods.
"This scientist is Ayano's father." I gulp.
"He is a brilliant man who has dedicated his life to finding a cure for cancer. He came up with different formulas and tested them on animals before moving to humans. The animals all survived the tests, but the humans didn't."
"That's not good." I say.
"No it isn't. But he kept on making changes and testing them again. After about 7 years of failures he finally found the perfect formula. He called it CE564; Cancer Exterminator try five hundred and sixty four. It ended up having the opposite effect, killing the animals and healing the humans. He became rich and famous because of his cure. Until the patients started displaying strange symptoms."
"Strange symptoms? Like what?" I ask, even though I know he'll tell me in a second.
"They started to take on strange powers. These patients were discarded as nothing more than a failed experiment and are shunned in our society. That's why they learned to hide their powers and blend in."
"So wait, are you guys a few of the patients?" He nods and so does Yosei. "Are there more of you?"
"There were only about four or five patients that the formula was tested on in major cities around the world. I'd say there's only about 25 people like us world wide."
"Wow. So is that guy still trying to find a cure?" TJ nods.
"In this very building."
"Aren't you afraid he'll find you?"
"We had a spell cast on this place! Whenever someone is going to come down we get an alert and we can run to our secret exit!" Says Yosei excitedly.
"A spell? Can you use magic?"
"Only fairy magic. And mine is spelled differently. It's Faerie Magik. The magic alarm was put there by Freed!" Freed?!
"Hold on Freed is a character in my favourite anime Fairytail!"
"Yeah his real name is Rei. He just likes to be called Freed. He even modelled his appearance after him! He's got the green hair and outfit and everything!" She says happily.
"That is like the best thing I've ever heard! I wanna meet him!"
"He's away at a convention for the next few days." Says TJ.
"Darn it!" After I stop having a mini fangirl freak out I stop and think for a second. "Wait, I didn't have cancer. What does that mean for me? And why did Ayano chose to put it in me? Why did she even have it anyway? And what did it do to me?!"
"Slow down there we'll answer everything! The formula worked much faster on you because you didn't have cancer cells for the formula to battle. It won't do anything dangerous to you except give you powers. I'm guessing Ayano stole it from her fathers lab and injected you because she needed to get rid of it and you were the most convenient person to do it to. As for what it did to you we can't be sure yet. The formula reacts differently for different people so we can't be sure what you turned into until it takes effect fully and you actually transform. They all start out as something minor and then you change completely and have to figure out how to contain it." My head starts to spin trying to take in all this information. "What did you see when you looked in the mirror?"
"I saw my eyes rapidly changing colour and then I got a stabbing pain in my head and when I looked back they had stopped on this light blue colour." I hear the clicking of a computer keyboard behind me and turn around. Koneko is standing at one of the computer monitors. She taps away bringing up search screen after search screen. She stops on one and turns to face us.
"Elemental" She says in her monotone voice.
"Huh? How'd you figure that out?"
"Lets go see!" Says Yosei and she skips over to the computer screen. I walk over with TJ.
"We downloaded a database of all known supernatural powers from fiction and reality. Whenever we find a new Anomaly that's what we use to identify them." He explains as we walk. We reach the computer and look at the page Koneko has brought up. It's got a few pictures of people from legends and novels thought to be elementals and a list of powers.
"According to this there are many different varieties of Elementals. You can be an elemental that only controls one element and depending on the variety your eyes, hair, or even skin colour will change to suit the element. You already appear to be one of the eye changing variety. You could also be able to control an element without having to transform and you might not be able to at all. Or you might have to transform completely to use your powers." Narrates TJ.
"There's a list of elements here and the colour that goes with it." I point at the chart and read them out. "There's water which is blue, fire which is red or orange, green or brown for earth, silver for air, and purple for spirit. Then there's light blue for ice and black for darkness and yellow for light. Looks like those ones are extremely rare so they don't really know what they're capable of." I gulp remembering that my eyes changed each of these colours.
"That means you're ice right now!" Says Yosei. I shiver.
"No wonder I feel cold."
"Variety 2." Says Koneko out of no where. We look up to where she's pointing on the screen. Sure enough, there are three types of elementals and I'm type two. Eye control. Type one is full body control where your body completely transforms into the element and you use your own body. Glad I'm not that one.
"Looks like all I have to do is look at what I want to control and think what I want it to do! Cool!"
"And look! Only your clothes change! You get outfits made of what you control!" Says Yosei tugging my shirt.
"Yes! My body won't do anything weird!" I say and fist pump the air above me. I relax and think for a second. I look at the clock on the computer screen. "Oh good grief it's 5:30?! I gotta go!" I run back to the little bed I was on and grab my bag. "Um...where's the door?" TJ laughs and gestures to a book case in the corner.
"Through there. Just tilt this series of books." He says walking over and tilting a bunch of books. I memorize the combo then do it myself. 3rd from the right top shelf, 12th from the left middle self, 8th from the right bottom shelf. The bookcase rattles and slides aside slowly. Very slowly.
"How can you get out of here in a hurry with a door this slow?"
"We have a different escape for that. I'll show you that tomorrow. Once you get out you'll be in a dead end alley. Leave the ally and take a right. You'll find yourself on the main street a couple blocks down from the school. You should be able to find your way from there." Says TJ.
"Thanks. See you guys tomorrow!" I say and run through the tunnel waving behind me as I go.
