What the heck just happened?

The sliding door flew open to reveal a small girl. She stood spread out in the doorway huffing like she'd just run a marathon. I felt a pang of recognition when my eye caught her bright green hair. She clears her throat and stands up straight. She started reciting with the rest of us as she walked to one of the other open seats; the one next to me. She drops her book bag on to her chair. It's got little stickers and buttons all over it and charms hanging from the buckles. Protection charms, health charms, love charms? And just cute little figurines that you might see on a phone. The teacher signals us all to sit down after we finish and we do. I look over at the girl again. She has pointy little ears and her feet don't even touch the floor when she sits. She swings her feet back and forth under her chair as she listens to the teacher.
"When I call your name answer with either 'here' or 'present'." And so he starts listing off all the names of the people in class. I hear one girls name, Ayano Mitzuki, and look over at her as she says 'present'. She's got long blonde silky hair and bright blue eyes. She sits perfectly straight in her chair and has a smile that would win over any boys heart. She looks around and makes eye contact with me. She smiles, closing her eyes and gives a little wave. I smile and wave back, just to be polite. She's the kind of girl that will probably run for student council president and get the best marks in every class.
"Mina Iyakashi." Says the teacher.
"Here sir." I say and raise the half of my arm not resting on the desk. He gives me a look and checks my name off. He calls a few more names, then TJ, whose last name is Oyasumi, and then a few more before the girl next to me is called.
"Yosei Yona?" She sticks her hand way up in the air like she's afraid he won't see her.
"Here I am!" She calls and waves her arm around. A few people snicker at her.
"I see you miss Yona. Alright everyone take out your english books." We do as we're told, the girl I now know as Yosei taking out a binder covered in sparkly stickers and pulling out a package of glittery pens. Wow she sure likes sparkly stuff. We start our first lesson on simple English terms and a few minutes in I start to hear a strange sound behind me. I turn around and see a girl sitting in the desk behind me. I jump at the sight. What the heck? When did she get here? I didn't even hear her say anything during attendance! As I look at her a little more I see her eyes are closed and her chest is moving slowly in and out. She's sleeping. Sitting up? I examine her a little more. She seems to be sitting up on her legs. As she snores I realize that it sounds similar to a cat purring. What in the world? Next I see the bow on top of her short orange hair twitch. Huh? I decide to poke her. Bad idea. I reach out slowly to tap her arm when her other arm seems to take on a mind of its own, reaching out at lightning speeds and grabbing my wrist. I gasp quietly, trying not to draw attention to the situation. I look back up at the teacher. Good, he's still occupied with the lesson. When I look back there are a pair of big green eyes staring at me. I make eye contact and can't seem to break it. Her eyes are hypnotizing and kind of cat-like. She has what looks like a permanent look of boredom plastered on her face.
"I was asleep." She says in a very monotone voice. I nod, thinking that sounded like a question rather than a statement.
"Thanks." She says. I smile and nod.
"N-no problem." She gives me the smallest hint of a smile and retracts her hand. I turn around, hand shaking and pick up my pen. That...was very strange. I go through class automatically copying what was being written on the board without really paying attention. When the bell rings for next period I pack up my books and hear footsteps coming toward me. I look up and see Ayano standing before me. She's a little taller then me and just ever so slightly intimidating. I gulp and smile.
"Hi! You're Mina, right?" I nod.
"That's ma name. Mina Iyakashi. You're Ayano right?"
"Yes! Very nice to meet you Mina!" She says sticking out her hand. I shake it, a little shocked.
"Did you need something?" I ask trying not to sound rude. She just smiles.
"I just thought that you'd like to have lunch with me later! I haven't seen you around here before and want to get to know you! What do you say?" I just stare, flabbergasted. Wow, my first day and already the preppy popular chick is asking me to have lunch with her? Me?
"That'd be great! Thanks!" She giggles and walks away waving.
"Meet me at the benches outside the front entrance!" I give a thumbs up and wave back.
"Be careful." Says TJ sneaking up behind me. I jump hearing his voice suddenly in my ear.
"Um, of what and why?" I ask.
"Just be careful. Her intentions aren't completely honest."
"And how do you know that?" I ask defiantly, crossing my arms. He taps the side of his head.
"I told ya, I've got a knack. I've just got a funny feeling about her. She's not what she seems." He puts a hand on my shoulder as he walks past me. "Just a friendly warning." And with that he walks out the door. Good grief, the people in this school are pretty weird.

It is now after second class and it's finally lunch time. I'm so hungry it's insane. I go to the little cafeteria and order lunch then go outside the front doors to meet my new 'friend'. She's standing with a bunch of other girls I don't recognize, chatting and laughing. I take one headphone out of my ear so I can hear them as I approach.
"I told you I have it under control! She won't even know what hit her, and by the time she finds out it'll be too late!" Ayano says in a cheery voice and they all start laughing. Have what under control? Who is she talking about? I stand behind her and clear my throat to make myself known and she turns around.
"Oh there you are! Mina I'd like you to meet some of my friends!" She starts listing off their names, names that I will never remember and I'm hardly even listening to.
"Girls this is Mina Iyakashi! You're new here aren't you?" She asks. I nod.
"Yeah, how'd you know?"
"I know everyone in this school but I've never seen you before! Plus,TJ never talks to anyone. You must be special for him to talk to you." Really? I think.
"I'm nothing special. I'm just Mina."
"So where you from Mina?" Asks one of Ayano's groupies.
"Up in Kyoto. Just moved here a couple weeks ago."
"Oh how exciting!" Says another one.
"Do you have any siblings?" Asks the third. I nod.
"Four brothers. All in college." They laugh.
"Are they hot?" Asks one of them. I give her a weird look.
"How would I know? They're my brothers!" They all start laughing. Hm. Maybe we could get along! Then they sit on the bench and take out their bento boxes. I sit next to Ayano and start eating my cafeteria lunch. They continue to ask me questions about my life and stuff until the bell rings for class to start.
"What class do you have now Mina?" Asks Ayano. I look at the schedule I had folded and stuck in my waistband.
"Home economics." I saw. She gasps.
"Oh my god I have that too! Yay! Let's go together!" She says excitedly and loops her arm through mine and proceeds to drag me to the home ec room. After home ec Ayano tells me to meet her at the gate after school. So here I am, standing at the gate waiting to my new friend. I take out my headphones as Ayano walks up.
"Hey. So why'd you want me to wait here?" I ask. I'd much rather be at home watching anime right now I think to myself. She gives me a smile.
"I have something to show you! Come with me!" She says and grabs my hand. She drags me to a dark and hidden spot at the back of the school.
"Umm...there's nothing here. What did you want to-" I'm cut off by a sharp pain in my upper arm. "Ow!" I yell and pull my arm away. Ayano is standing next to me holding a large needle; and it's empty.
"W-what did you just do?" I say just seconds before my vision starts to blur. I stumble and ram into the wall of the school. I can barely make out Ayano's face anymore, but I here her laughing maniacally. Then she moves closer and whispers in my ear.
"Have fun." She snickers and walks away. I take a step towards her and try to yell for her, but no sound escapes my mouth. I take another step and fall backwards, blackness closing in on me. I feel a pair of arms catch me and I instantly relax at the touch. I give up fighting the inevitable unconsciousness and the blackness closes in. The last thing I see is the outline of a boy's face as he says
"Congratulations. You're one of us now."
