CHAPTER 2 - Summer Blues

~ R ~

With a loud cracking noise, the Weasleys, Remus and Renee had finally arrived at 12 Grimmauld Place. While the adults enjoyed a smooth journey, especially Fred and George who apparated at every opportunity they saw ever since receiving their apparition licenses, the youngsters still seemed uneasy. Renee, of course, used the privilege in moderation, not wanting to risk splinching a part of her body in case she messed up.

The guests were met by Kingsley, Tonks and Mad-Eye, who were waiting outside the house. "'Bout time you all bloody arrived!" Mad-Eye huffed and went straight to break the protective Fidelius charm, revealing Sirius' home, which was hidden between two muggle houses.

"Sorry we couldn't meet you at the Burrow. Ministry business," Kingsley said. "Hello, kids!"

"When will they ever stop calling us kids?" Renee whispered to Fred.

"Never," Fred grinned.

Once they were all inside the headquarters, Kingsley shouted 'Padfoot!' before Sirius Black came running out to welcome his guests. He hugged Remus last and it was apparent that the man was all too happy to see his best mate. "Bloody hell, Moony. Don't stay away for that long again, I can't live without you," he said affectionately.

"Always the melodramatic," Remus laughed. "Sirius, meet Renee."

"Ah, of course! Hello, dear. Nice to finally meet you," Sirius said and shook her hand.

"It's nice to meet you too, sir."

"Please call me Sirius. Have any of you had dinner yet?"

"NOPE! We're starving!" George yelled from afar, which was succeeded by an admonishment from his mother.

"Are you chums with the Weasleys?" Sirius asked Renee.

"Yeah, we're best friends, us three." she replied.

"Love your accent," he smiled. "Are you really in Slytherin, dear?"

"Get over it, Padfoot." Remus chided. "Renee's different."

"My family tree isn't exactly easy to forget, you know," he said, frowning. "But as long as you're on our side, I can make an exception."

"You can count on that." Renee affirmed politely.

As the group satisfyingly ate the dinner cooked by Mrs. Weasley, Renee couldn't help but feel torn while observing Sirius. Remus, her only family, was his best friend while Severus, the man who possessed her heart and soul was probably his mortal enemy. She wanted to know so much about their past, but she had no idea where to even begin. Her musings, however, were interrupted by Tonks' impeccable pig snout transformations and George's cheesy quidditch puns, making her extremely grateful for the company that was making her laugh even with the knowledge that she might run into trouble very soon.
