CHAPTER 3 - Dispensing Reasons

~ R ~

"Merlin's bollocks. What was that noise? I've been hearing it since yesterday." George asked.

"I don't know but whatever it is, it doesn't sound like it wants company." Fred muttered.

"Then let's go and bug the hell out of it." his twin insisted.

Rather than avoiding what might potentially be the cause of danger for them, the Weasley twins lingered outside the drawing room of Sirius' home, waiting for the best time to kick the door down and find out once and for all what the mysterious ruckus was, much to Renee's chagrin. She had to keep reminding herself that these boys were the type who would ride a Cleansweep around a fire-breathing Hungarian Horntail with idiotic grins on their faces.

"I don't think it's anything special." Renee huffed. "Not that I'd be able to convince any of you to leave it alone."

"You're scared, aren't you, Miss Slytherin?" George mocked.

"No. If I was, I wouldn't be here with you lot right now."

Fred put his arm around her shoulder. "This is where the phrase 'venture at your own risk' comes to mind."

"KIDS! TIME FOR DINNER!" Mrs. Weasley yelled from the dining room.

"Bloody hell," George sighed. "Another opportunity to escape the prism of boredom in Grimmuald place wasted."

"I think being fed is more important than your little Dora the Explorer adventures, George." Renee smirked.

"Is that the Spanish transvestite-looking muggle cartoon you were telling me about? Fits George perfectly." Fred joked, earning a slap on the arm from his twin brother.

Renee ate dinner quietly, having hardly any interest to include herself in her company's small talk. Thoughts of Severus' reluctance to acknowledge her presence kept on clouding her mind and naturally kept her spirits down. That happened a week ago and she was not looking forward at all to the Order meeting tomorrow. She did not know what he was playing at, or if he's even playing at anything.

Their first week in Grimmuald Place was spent mostly by de-doxying Sirius' curtains, which proved to be a more strenuous task than what they had hoped for. It was more than enough to have to endure hours of Hermione babbling on about S.P.E.W., but to have Kreacher tailing them around, relentlessly calling the Weasleys blood traitors and Renee and Hermione half-breed and mudblood respectively, was a nightmare. None of them knew why Renee was being called as such so she had to joke that perhaps it was because she had a different accent.

Dinner ended quickly so Renee was able to rest after a long day of cleaning. Tonks and Hestia Jones were both sent off to Hogwarts by Dumbledore, the former promising Renee that she would return in the middle of the night so as not to leave her alone in their room for too long. Sirius was kind enough to lend Renee and Hermione his family's old collection of books so that the two bookworms would not be deprived of their addiction. The twins had to begrudgingly confront Kreacher, as per Sirius' request, to retrieve all of the stuff he smuggled from the bedrooms, so Renee opted to hide in her room, away from the deranged elf.
