Chapter 1- You don't know shit about me.
"Michelle Ann Scoffer! Get your butt out of bed!" My mom violently screamed at me.
"Can't I just miss school today?" I called back.
"It's the first day of school and you expect me to let you stay home?" She said as if it was the most outrageous thing ever to have been spoken.
"Um...yes?" I called back as if it were obvious.
"Michelle!"
"Okay, okay! I'm up."
So that's how my mornings typically go on the first day.
I went into the bathroom and took a quick shower. When I got out I brushed my plain brown hair. After I brushed my hair I put on a little bit of eyeliner and put my glasses on.
After putting on my usual attire, a baggy shirt, skinny jeans, and my converse, I took a look in the mirror. I guess I'd say my look was average. I mean, I didn't look bad, but I wouldn't go as far as to say I looked good.
I ran downstairs and grabbed a piece of toast. "Bye!" I said walking out the door, toast-in-hand.
"Are you forgetting something?" My mom asked.
"No, I have my book bag, my clothes, my breakfast. I'm. All good." I said.
"What about your ride to school?" She said.
"Oh yeah. I probably need that." I muttered. I went over and sat on one of the dark brown stools around the counter.
"I need to go, incase you didn't know. I mean, you are the one who told me to get up." I spoke spinning around, stopping because I got dizzy.
"Calm down Michelle, I have things to do too." My mom spoke while picking up her car keys. "Alright, get in the car." My mom said.
"Okay!" I said walking out the door again. I opened the car door and swiftly sat in the passenger seat. I turned up the radio humming along to Sam Smith's Nirvana song.
My mom sat in the driver's seat and turned the music down a little.
"Do you want to go deaf?" My mom asked, looking at me like I was crazy.
"Well of course not mom, because then I wouldn't be able to hear you and dad rant about what I'm doing wrong." I said sarcastically.
"Don't take that tone with me missy." My mom said angrily.
Don't take that tone with me my ass.
The ride to school didn't take very long. But it was mostly filled with mom telling me what she wanted me to do when I got home from school. It was mostly the dishes and laundry.
"Okay mom. Please don't ruin the day for me before it's even begun." I said groaning.
"What is with your attitude this morning." Mom said mostly talking to herself.
"Bye mom." I said waving walking away from the car, which I had left when mom was still contemplating what was wrong with me.
"Oh yeah," mom began, finally out of her wonderland, "bye sweetie. Have a nice day." She said whilst driving away.
"Micky?" I heard a girl's voice behind me. I turned around to find none other than my best friend Clara Jackson.
"Hey Clara. Where's Annalise?" I questioned walking with her near the school.
"She's probably somewhere reading a book. You guys are such nerds." She chuckled.
"Oh whatever. You know you love me." I said jokingly. The bell rang signaling that we needed to get to class.
"I'll see you in third period." Clara said because that was the first period we had together.
"I'll see you then." I said walking to my first period, English. I walked through the halls to room A17.
I opened the door gently, careful not to cause any attention on me. Luckily I made it through with only one or two people glancing up at me.
I chose a seat near the back of the classroom. I sat at an empty desk, hoping that someone wouldn't want to sit near me. God knows I need someone sitting next to me and ruining my day.
The bell was just about to ring and I was feeling relief because nobody chose to sit next to me. I was in the middle of my relief sigh when a tall guy sat in the seat next to mine.
Great. Thanks a lot, jackass.
Just what I needed. Yep. I needed a complete douche to sit next to me ask ruin everything. Hopefully the next time we have this class he chooses a different seat.
"Alright students," the teacher began, "as an early start I will pair you up with someone. That person will be your partner for any project in the year." The teacher went through the list of names.
"Michelle Scoffer and Adam Cross." Who the crap is Adam Cross. I looked around the classroom for my partner. When I couldn't find my partner I raised my hand and the teacher signaled for me to come up to him.
"What is it Ms. Scoffer?" He asked.
"Who is Adam Cross?" I question.
"He is the not-so-gentle-man that sat next to you." He responded.
Great! Just what I needed! The jackass from this morning just had to be my partner.
I smiled at the teacher and walked back to my seat. I sat down upset and turned to Adam.
"Listen, if we're going to be partnered I need to know at least a little bit about you." I said in what I could muster for a cheery voice.
He didn't respond.
"Hello? Anybody there?" I said waving my hand beside his head. He turned around, obviously aggravated.
"Wanna know about me?" He said angrily, "fun fact, I don't give a dip shit about you or your little 'perfect' attitude." He said pointing at me.
Now I'm not usually one to get easily angered, so you can probably imagine how surprised I was when the next words came out of my mouth.
"Listen jackass. First of all I didn't ask to be partnered up with you. Second, you don't know shit about me. So don't go assuming things that you don't know are true."
The bell rang and I didn't waste any time getting up and leaving.
