Rapid. Things were happening rapidly. So fast that all Mercury could see in front of her was a cloud of blur. However, she kept her form.. her agility. Only one of her many skills.

She could take a punch, but she could also throw one. One, after another, after another. Faster and faster. Harder and harder. All of her pent up rage being released in the form of violence. Violence towards the one person she hated most.

The cold moonlight casted illumination onto her features underneath her dark hood. Strands of blue hair flew into her face, all but distracting her. This was her mission, and she was going to finish it. Mercury Knight would get her ending.. but not in the way she had thought.

Her bruised knuckles retained their speed. Often colliding with different areas of Penelope's body. Every once in a while Mercury would raise her leg in a kicking format, aiming directly for the spider-hero.

She knew Penelope better than anyone, although she would have never admitted it. She knew her fighting stances, where she directed her throws, how many hit she could take. All of it.

Mercury knew that her nemesis was getting closer and closer to her breaking point. It would happen soon, and Mercury savored every second.

Being on a large skyscraper in New York wasn't the easiest thing for the two. It did, however, present new opportunities. All she had to do was bring Penelope to the edge and watch as she took her final breath of life.

It would be easy. Or so she expected.

On any other night, there would have been silence. But on a night like this one, the sound of concrete rubbing against firm shoes filled both of their eardrums. Along with the painful grunts that slipped from their vocal cords every so often.

With every cut, every bruise, every broken bone, things came nearer to the end. In every way possible. Something that Mercury had dreamt of ever since things had started between them. She just wanted it to end.

Things were getting hectic. Chaotic. Mercury had started to show signs of carelessness. Not thinking as much as she had been previously. She was letting her thoughts consume her.

Why had she done this? Did she really want her former friend dead? What would it feel like to have someone's soul in the palm of your hand? Some of these things, Mercury didn't want to find out.

Penelope took this opportunity to overpower the villain named Hades. She held onto the collar of Mercury's suit as tight as she could, making sure that she couldn't escape her hold. It was tense. They were both as stiff as they could have possibly been.

The brunette had pushed Mercury closer and closer towards the edge of the building, only one slip away from falling. Any wrong move could have had her killed.

"Why are you doing this? You could have used what you were given for good.. it didn't have to be this way." Penelope breathed out in a light sigh.

"What I was given? I never wanted this. You did this to me, and you need to learn that reckless actions have severe consequences." Mercury replied viciously, having no sympathy nor mercy for the destruction she had caused.

Leaning off the ledge, Mercury made a choice. Not having a second thought regarding what she was about to do.

Mercury had used her feet to kick Penelope in the torso. Except it wasn't to get Penelope away from her. In reality, she had done this so that she could use her full body strength to lunge herself off of the tower.

Penelope didn't even have enough time to react. She couldn't have stopped the movement of gravity pulling down the girl. Mercury Knight had made a decision in that moment. One that would lead into so many more things.

At last, it was quiet. Penelope could hear the raspy wind blow her brown locks along her frostbitten nose. She could hear as the crickets sang their midnight songs.

She should have felt bliss, that everything was over, but she couldn't help but feel responsible. Penelope had sunken down to her knees, letting the salty tears stream down her delicate face.

They used to be so close, but there Mercury was, lying lifelessly on the cold solid ground. Coming face to face with pure death.
