YEARS 1-6

Extracted from: Viktor's observation reports

The subject known only as "Y/N" was by all intents and purposes, dead.

He was declared dead for three minutes before the medical specialists of Piltover were able to bring him back from the edge of death.

He was put into their care when the current sheriff, Marcus, brought him to the city in an attempt to save the young man's life.

Where did he come from, or what has he endured was something that we were strictly told not to ask about.

Regardless, what did spring up a topic of conversation were the boy's injuries. Severe burn marks, deep cuts, broken bones, and arguably, the worst of all:

A slit throat and a pulverized right leg.

It was indeed a miracle that they were able to save his life, although he entered a comatose state shortly after.

The specialists warned it would happen. His body was just now getting to recover after being put through excruciating pain.

Entry #2

The state in which Y/N  came to Piltover was nothing short of catastrophic, and even though most of the scarring healed and his bones were readjusted, his right leg was irreparably damaged.

Deals were struck in secret to acquire him a cybernetic prosthesis.

However, it was only when he finally woke up three years later that we became aware of the most haunting of his symptoms.

Y/N opened his mouth, but no voice came out. The sounds were barely audible to the point that forming a complete sentence proved to be an impossible task.

But where we saw a tragedy, my partner, Jayce, saw an opportunity to prove the usefulness of HexTech in previously uncharted territory.

We pitched the idea to the Council that with the correct device, we could restore Y/N's voice, or at least provide an aid for him to communicate.

This time, the Council didn't require much persuasion, especially once they learned that he was from the Undercity. So they allowed us to experiment on him.

Having grown in the underground myself, I certainly took offense to this but was more determined than ever to restore our new patient.

Entry #5

Jayce and I arranged a deal with Y/N, offering him a place to call his own here in Piltover in exchange for his cooperation with the procedures. He agreed.

Soon after, it was revealed that Councilor Kiramman's daughter, Caitlyn had taken a liking to the young man, and would often come by and offer him some company.  The two developed a friendship as a result.

She claimed Y/N is the same boy that used to play music in our streets. I find it hard to believe.

Their growing bond was talked about for weeks. Some council members said nothing good could come out of it, but most agreed that if interactions with the young Caitlyn improved Y/N's overall mood, then it would be allowed.

I agree with them, the poor man deserves as much happiness as he can get.

Entry #19

It took us three years of research and testing (not to mention, the various other projects the Council entrusted us with, namely, the Hexgates), but we finally developed a small, portable device that would react to Y/N's vocal cord movement and would respond with the corresponding sound emission.

Although people just started calling it a "voice box", and he wore it like a normal accessory.

Y/N's new voice didn't sound as organic as we would've hoped, but he had successfully recovered his ability to speak.

Not long after he did, Y/N was interrogated regarding his life prior to his unusual accidents but failed to provide any answers. Not out of spite, but because he genuinely could no remember.

It was here that we became aware of his second-worst symptom: An incomplete memory.

The young man had a vague recollection of the events previous to his life in Piltover, unable to remember much, other than trivial details such as the names "Vi" and "Powder", an affinity for music, as well as a general disdain for the Enforcers.

The latter, being a shared feeling amongst all of the citizens of the undercity.

Unfortunately, we cannot help him with his memory problems.

Entry #32

The experiment was widely regarded as a success, and we brought Y/N to deliver part of the opening speech for Progress Day to showcase part of our advancements. Just a couple of sentences.

He agreed, but only, and I quote, "to repay my debt".

Y/N delivered, and in some instances even improved upon the original script. The people loved it, but it was very clear that Y/N himself did not.

As soon as he wasn't required, he fled the scene.

Caitlyn reported that he spent the rest of the celebration locked inside his room, playing the guitar he bought for himself. However, he was not using his voice box at all, but rather, staying completely silent during his private concert.

This was quickly dismissed, yet I can't help but wonder.

It could be saved that we restored Y/N's voice and saved his life, but in the process, I fear we might have broken his spirit.
