Onto the story!!

----------------------------------------------------

They were supposed to be talking, but neither dared to make the first move.

To utter the first word.

This guilt. Ladybug thought, deep aching from within her chest growing stronger by the second. I know he deserves an answer...but what can I say?

Paris was still, silent, not like most nights. It's as if the world knew what was happening and commanded all other distractions and aspects of the universe to align in a way where things would finally be able to progress.

Because Heaven knows that the last few years have gotten them no where.

Countless heartbreaks, sacrifices, guarded secrets, repetitive battles, and cries for change. Everything was still the same.

Everything was different.

But only in Marinette's brain. For Chat Noir, it was probably the same dynamic that he had grown so accustomed to for years on end. And maybe it wasn't exactly a good thing for him, but he couldn't have known what had been going through her mind for the past few months. It's like everything had turned on her, pointing her heart in the direction of the one she refused to surrender her affection to.

All the signs that her brain and conscious consistently fought against, pushing down the urge to wrap her arms around her partner and confess everything that had been plaguing her thoughts. But she was scared. The outcome was unpredictable and she knew that he would never be able to forgive himself if she told him.

But it wasn't in his power.

She knew that, but it still didn't change the fact that she knew what kind of person he was. And how terribly he would rip himself up inside for ruining something that was only given once.

And he deserves better than that.

She peered over at his depleted face, shoulders squared out towards the streets of Paris in case he caught her looking and she needed a quick way to pretend that she wasn't debating every single word that would come out of her mouth.

He deserves better than to be kept in the dark.

Adrien couldn't bring himself to speak. He knew once he did, that there would be no stopping the profuse amount of pent-up emotions that would utterly and recklessly flow out. He didn't want to hurt her, but he was mad. He deserved better than to be treated like every other super hero that she chose to recruit for the small of a couple of hours. He had been with her from the very start, guiding her and lifting her up in her moments of utmost despair. He understood her more than any of Paris, and he loved her more than words could ever testify.

And this was how she chose to repay him?

A kiss on the cheek would not cut it this time.

Marinette bit her lip, feeling her eyes prick with oncoming tears, but she felt that she didn't deserve to cry. She didn't. But she hated this. This feeling of uncharted territory between them, things that they didn't dare to cross the line of and speak about. But she knew that he was on the verge of completely giving up. On everything. On her
