Dirt and Dummies || A ZigZag fanfic

I sit on X-Rays left, Zigzag right on mine when Stanley sits down. "Hey yo new kid. Hey yo! Since you didn't dig today, so uh, you wouldn't mind giving up your bread, to somebody who did now would you?" X-Ray reaches across and grabs Stanley's sandwich. "We'll you didn't take Katherine's."

"Hey. It's Kj. And no I didn't, because she proved herself to not be a pussy." "So what they get you guys for." Squid asks. "Stealing a pair of shoes." Stanley mumbles, damn kids gotta speak up. "From the store, or we're they still in someone's feet?" "No no he just killed the dude first, you just left out that little detail right?" Zigzag teases. "They we're Clyde Livingstons shoes."

"Sweet feet? What? Man you did not steal no Clyde Livingstons sweetfeet shoes." "His World Series cleats." "Hold on, hold on, hold on, how you get 'em? He's like the fastest guy in the majors, right?" Magnet asks. I got bored of the conversation, zoning out til I heard my name get called. "Ight what about yo Kj, what you do."  Magnet asks.

"Popped a guys tire, broke his windshield too." It wasn't totally a lie. I had broke someone's windshield before, also on accident, but I haven't got caught for that. "Daaaaamn Kj. What he do to youuuu?" X-Rat asked. "Nothing in particular, just a bad dude all around." They all laughed, but all I could focus in was ZigZags laugh, his accent really poking through.

Next morning we were up before the son, all going to collect our shovels. I followed behind X-Ray, grabbing slightly small shovel, following him to wherever we were going. We walked out to the middle of no where, dragging our feet. Glad I kept my hair tie, I tied my hair up, hopefully to take some heat off my neck. I ignore Mr.Sir's little sprach, just getting straight to digging next to X-Rat and Zigzag.

"Damn its hotter than the sun out here." I throw my head back with a exasperated sigh. "You get used to it, sooner or later." X-Ray says. I continue digging, about half way done. "Hey X, what did the chicken say when he crossed the road." I paused, breathing heavily. X-Ray paused too, looking at me, "I don't know. What he say?" "Well damn X, I don't speak chicken." I laughed and the boys around me did too.

Mr.Sir's truck comes back and we line up, getting our fill of water. I zone out again as he fills my water.  I head back to my hole, only bout a half a foot left. Zero leaves his whole as I sit in mine ready for death by heat. "He's a mole, I think he eats the dirt." Zigzag says and I involuntary burst out laughing. Some boys look at me, laughing too. I keep digging, finishing about the same time as X and Zigzag.

"Uh oh. Yo X!" I look up above the edge as X loos for me. "Little help up man?" X-Ray laughs and continues walking. "You're on your own for that one Kj." He continues walking and I groan, throwing my head back. Suddenly, I hear a thumb and turn around to see Zigzag in my hole. "Go on, turn around little lady." I raise and eye brow but he don't move.

Sighing, I do as he says and he suddenly lift me up and sets me on the edge of the hole. "Holy shit!" I gasp, looking at him as he climbs out and gives me a hand out. "Thanks, but you ever call me little lady again, I'm cutting your hair off." I threaten and he just laughs as we continue walking together.

When we got back to camp, I parted ways with Zigzag and walked up to Mom. "Hey, think we could talk to the warden about my showering issue now?" I squint up at him. "You bet it Katherine," I roll my eyes, "Alright let's go." We head up to the wardens cabin and Mom knocks. We hear a 'Come in!' And I follow him inside.  "Hey Lou, a kid of ours got a question."

"Alright we'll what is it- my gee how did you end up her little lady?" The Warden asks, standing up from her couch and walking over to us. "Beats me Warden." I shrug. "Please, call me Louise, anyways what can I do for ya?" I hesitate. "We'll if you haven't noticed, I see to be the only girl in this whole camp, and well, not to sound full of myself but is there any other place I can shower?"

My voice sounds small, embarrassment evident. Her eyes widen, "Oh my sweet darling, anytime you need a shower you just come on over here and knock, you can use mine, no token needed hun." "Really? Thank you ma'am." She nods and shoos Mom out. "Follow me honey." She shows me to her shower and let's me wash up, walking me back out to my tent after.

When I walk in the tent, half the boys are shirtless and I roll my eyes, picking up on their conversation. "Man we ain't digging for no lizards," X-Ray says, "Like Mr.Sir said, we digging to build some character." We all laugh and the boys finally notice me. "Aye Kj's back, where you disappeared to?" Armpit asks.

"Took a shower." I shrug but they look at me puzzled. "B-but I was just out by the shower, you weren't out there." I smirk, "Oh I'm sorry I should've been more specific, I was taking a shower in the wardens cabin." The boys all semi-shouted. "Nah man, how you manage that?" X-Ray asks.

"Y'know, she wasn't gonna have be showering out in the open with a bunch of teenage boys that could see me at any second, so I get showers in the wardens cabin." I lean back in victory as the all holler. We all eventually go to bed, but I couldn't sleep. Apparently, neither could Zigzag, nor Squid.

Though I got lucky, they didn't know I was awake.
"Psst, Squid." "Yeah Zig?" "I got it bad Zig." "Man what?" "I think I like Kj, dude." "Nah man, you gotta be joking, shes way outta your league. Hell I bet she got a boy waiting for her back home." "I know man, what do I do?" "You don't do nothin, unless she does something first." "Alright, night man." "Night."

And that, was when I made my plan to get Zigzag to ask me out.

A/n: I swear I'm gonna finish writing this book in one night I love zigzag so much. Also what do you think Kj looks like? I wanna know how you picture her!
