Dirt and Dummies || A ZigZag fanfic

I lean against Zig as we wait in line for water. "Man, with this heat I'm ready to just go find a lizard and have it kill me. Better then being here." I groan, squeezing my eyes shut. "You can't do that, you couldn't leave me if you tried." Zigzag chuckles, nudging me and I smile. "Hey mom!" X calls out, "I think I found something! Come here for a second I think I found something!"

Mom hands Squid his jug back then walks over to X. I can't hear what he says as we walk over there, "I get the day off now right?" He asks. "You just might. We're gonna call the warden." Mom grabs his walkie talkie but I tune him out. "Hey Zig, how bad is the dirt it my hair?" I turn to him. He laughs, "Not very, seeing as you get special shower privileges."

I smile, closing my eyes. After about ten minutes, a white Chevy pulls up, and the warden steps out. Me and Zig are already back digging out holes, pausing when the warden walks by us. "This where you found it?" "Yes Ma'am." X-Ray answers. "Dr.Pendanski, drive X-Ray back to camp. Give him double shower tokens and a snack. But first, fill everyone's canteen."

"I already filled 'em." Wrong move, Wardens smile drops. "Excuse me?" "I had already filled them when you drove up in the car." "Excuse me." I leaned over to Zig, "Mom's in some deep shit." Zigzag nods in agreement. "Did I ask you when you last filled them?" "No, you didn't but-" "Excuse me. Now these fine kids have been working hard. Do t you think it just, might be possible they have taken a drink since you filled their canteens?"

They mumble something and Wardens calls out to Caveman, "Come over here, please." Caveman drops his shovel and takes off his hat, approaching the warden. "Now did you by any chance take a drink, since he filled your canteen?" "Oh no, no I'm fine, I have plenty." "Excuse me?" The warden takes off her sunglasses. "I might have uh, drinken some."

"Thank you. May I have your canteen please?" The warden takes his canteen and walks up to mom and shakes it. "Can you hear the empty spaces?" "Yes, I can hear." She shoves it in his chest, "Fill it. If that's too much trouble, you can grab a shovel and Caveman can fill the canteens." They start throwing around orders but I can't concentrate from lack of water.

My canteens had a hole for 2 days, but Mr.Sir won't get me a new one so I've been chugging what little water I got. Everyone's moving around me and I lay in my hole, practically dying. A shadow steps over me and I open my eyes to see the warden. "Kj, if your canteen was just filled, where has all your water gone?"

" s'got a hole. Been chugging what water stay's in so it doesn't go to waste." "And have you told someone about this hole?" She asks, reaching for my canteen. I give it to her and nod, "Told Mr.Sir yesterday and still haven't got a new one." She nods and thinks. "Share with Zigzag for the rest of the day, you'll have a new canteen by tonight."

I nod in thanks and begin to sit up. I was always digging besides Zigzag the whole time, trying to keep up.

"Hey how'd she know my name man?" "Oh shes got the whole place wired," Zigzag answers, "Oh yeah she's got these little, tiny microphones and cameras all over the place," He threw his shovel, "Yeah shes got 'em in the rec room, she's got em in the tent, she's got em in the showers."

"They're not in the showers!" Caveman yells. "Man don't listen to him, I read his file," Squid buts in, "Sats he suffers from acute paranoia." Magnet buts in now too, "Hey so that means she watches me everyday huh?" I shove Magnet a bit, "He said cameras and microPHONES, not microSCOPES." He laughs and pushes me a bit too.

I hear Mr.Sir and the Warden talk, but I pay no attention to them, more so staring at Zigzag. "Whatchya staring at?" Magnet teases, nudging me. I snap outta my trance, pushing him away, "Nothing man! I wasn't staring at shit!" I mumble. "You like Zigzag don't ya?" Squid buts in too in my other side. "What? No! He's a jerk!" "Didn't look like no jerk to me, when he was carrying you back to camp few days ago." Magnet points out.

"S-so? Maybe he's not a complete jerk, but look at him! He's so dirty and weird with his dirty...fluffy hair, and his tall legs and- oh my god I like Zigzag." I groan. Squid and Magnet laugh, "Thanks Captain obvious, we couldn't tell!" Squid laughs, clutching his stomach.

"Waters the most important thing on the face of the planet, all live begins with water." Mr.Sir talks while filling canteens, "So think of it this way, I'm giving you life." I wait beside Zigzag and notice a piece of rock in his hair and reach up to come it out, afraid if I grabbed it I'd pull his hair too. "What was that for?" He looks at me as I pull out the rock and show it to him.

"Do it again." I giggle lightly, taking my hands gently through his hair again, struggling a bit from the height difference. "I got a story for you Girl Scouts," Mr.Sir walked around the truck, "Once upon a time, there was a magical plate where it never rained. The end!" He starts wheezing as if he's the funniest person alive. He looks at us and opens the truck door, "Have a nice day."

He gets in and I pulled my hands from Zig's hair as we walk away and he looks at me with a displeased look. "Hey guys," Magnet grabs our attention, "Anybody want some sunflower seeds?" We all laugh as Mr.Sir drives away and Magnet shows the bag. X-Ray walks up and grabs the bag, taking a handful. Armpit throws it to me and I take a handful, passing it to Zig.

Suddenly, Mr.Sirs truck takes a big U-turn back to us. Zigzag throws it to Caveman but he misses, the bag spilling at his feet. Everyone's yelling at him to hide as as he scrambles to do so. Mr.Sir walks out, and he looks pissed. Me, Zig, and everyone else but Caveman go back to digging. Mr.Sir talks to him, but I'm focused on spitting out seed shells at the right time to cover them with dirt.

"I stole it out of you truck." My head snaps up as Caveman takes the blame. "I think maybe the warden would like to see what you found." Mr.Sir threatens and motions Caveman to the truck. We all watch him leave with Mr.Sir and I sit down when the truck starts driving.

"Damn, he ain't coming back from that." I comment, spitting out a shell as the others sit too, Zig moving to sit besides me. "Magnet," he looks up at me, "Truth or dare?" The others chuckle and Magnet thinks. "Dare." "I dare you to lick your shovel." Everyone laughs at Magnets disgusted face.

"Fine, but you're in for it." With lots of hesitation, he grabs his shovel and licks it, all of us letting out a choir of 'ew'. "Zigzag, truth or dare." Magnet stares right at Zigzag. Zig looks at me and I shrug. "Dare." Magnet smiles evilly. "I dare you to kiss Kj. On the lips." The boys 'ooooh' and wolf whistle as we turn bright red.

Zigzag looks at me with hesitation and I roll my eyes with a small smile. "Can I-" I cut off Zigzag by grabbing his face and pulling him closer to me, kissing him, praying that he kisses back. The boys cheer as he does, placing his hands on my waist. He chuckles as we pull away, looking away from each other.

Magnet chuckles as I mouth 'you're dead' to him. "X-Ray, truth or dare." X-Ray catches his breath to answer Zig, "Truth." "Is it true you had a crush on Kj when she first came to camp?" I laugh and throw my glove at Zigzag as X-Ray shyly nods. "No way! Legit?" Magnet asks. "I mean c'mon man, she's the first girl most of us have seen in over what, 2 months? Some of us longer."

I see his reasoning and most the others agree. "Hey," Zigzag leans down to whisper, "If I lay my head in your lap, will you do that thing with my hair again?" I chuckle and nod, moving my gloves out of my lap. Zigzag lays his head in my lap and my hands immediately go to play and comb through his hair ad we listen to the others keep playing.

A/n: that's probablyyyyy it for tonight. Ok but can we talk about how soft Zig's hair probably is? I mean yeahs it def gonna be dirty but it looks so fluffy
