A Quick Escape

Letting go

Habang iminimulat ko ang aking mga mata, agad akong nakarinig ng malalakas na boses sa ibaba, ipinikit ko ang aking mga mata at pilit na pinipigilan ang pagpatak ng mga luha.

'They are fighting again', I whispered.

We used to be a joyous family of four, but since that accident happened, all the memories we have shattered into pieces, our family started to get be messed up.

I was longing for their love, I was hoping to bring that joy again, but who am I to wish that to happen? I am just a nobody, I am not even the favorite child, I am just a shadow of my twin.

Katulad nang anino, nakasunod lang ako, aninong walang ibang pagpipilian kundi ang sumunod. Nakakapagod maging isang anino lang.

Kailan ba ako mapapansin? I feel so alone, I feel so lost. 

Katulad nang anino, dilim lang rin ang kasama ko.

At kahit nung wala na sya, isa pa rin akong anino. Anino pa rin ako ng nilang paborito.

Aninong nagtatago sa dilim, at sa paglipas ng panahon, isa ng aninong kinalimutan ng lahat, maging ang dalawang taong naging rason kung bakit ako naging anino.

It's been twelve years since my twin sister died in a car accident, she was the perfect daughter as everyone says, and I, a daughter who is lost and lonely who has been her shadow since I was seven years old.

With thoughts in my head, I got up from my bed and went to the window, I opened it, and a cool breeze greeted me, I could see from where I was standing the huge mountains and towering trees.

Malayo kami sa siyudad malaya ako sa mapopulusyon at toksikong siyudad pero pakiramdam ko, nakakulong ako — haunted by the memories of the past.

I sigh before going straight to the bathroom. Hindi ko isinara ang bintana at hinayaang pumasok ang malamig na simoy ng hangin.

As I recalled the past, I started to fill the bathtub with warm water, when it was already filled, I took off my clothes and went into the bathtub.

I closed my eyes and let the warm water embrace my cold body. As it embraced my body with warm water, as water flowed I suddenly remembered what happened that night.

It's Avaisha's and I's seventh birthday, this is the day we've been for; I woke up early to get ready, I went to my sister's room, and she just had woken up when I turned on the light in her room.

Her bedroom wall is full of drawings while mine is full of space-themed posters.

Our day started with a big breakfast, mom made pancakes topped with fruits of our choice. I choose blueberry and Avaisha chose strawberry. We had lunch at our favorite restaurant in the city and after that, we went to the place where our grand birthday celebration will be held.

The place is huge, we chose Rapunzel as our theme, we both loved her, especially when she saw the lanterns.

The celebration started at three thirty in the afternoon, the introduction of the celebration was Avaisha and I's dance, which was followed by games and messages from the people we love, we had an early dinner at five o'clock, and the celebration continued after that is the giving of gifts and the semi ending was when our father danced with us.
