Abigail was almost like any ordinary girl. She wasn't rich, wasn't spoilt but more importantly, she didn't have any parents. Abigail wasn't beautiful and she accepted that. She had rusty coloured hair that was often tangled and she was rather thin compared to many others. Her most attractive feature was her eyes. She had pale blue eyes that seemed to swim with her daydreams and they seemed to cause people to stop and notice her. Everyone told her that she had her mother's eyes, for her mother was indeed very beautiful.
Abigail was 12 years old and it was her 13th birthday in 1 day's time. She was a little excited but when you live in Evergreen Orphanage things can always be quite dull. Abigail had only one wish. She wanted no gifts or surprises, but she had a burning desire to talk to her parents again. She missed them more than anyone could ever imagine.
Her parents died a couple of years ago when she was only 9 years old and nobody knows how or why it happened. They had gone out to eat as an anniversary meal and had hired a childminder to look after Abigail. Their bodies were found lying in the street the next day, covered in gaping wounds that would never heal. The biggest wound however, was the one that Abigail bore each and every day of her life. Her life without her parents.
