Abigail took a moment before replying.
"Hi" she stammered "M-my name is Abigail."
"Don't talk to her." Eva sneered. "Come with me, we could be best friends."
Eva shot a dirty look at Abigail before plastering her face into a smile and linking her arm through Flora's. Flora looked at Eva and smiled. Then she turned back to Abigail. "Ok, see you around."
Abigail smiled weakly as Eva and Flora walked out the room. Abigail watched them through the dusty glass window as they laughed with each other. The sound of Eva's laughter was like a cackling hyena, however, Flora's was the exact opposite. Her laughter was like tinkling bells ringing throughout the sunlit morning. Abigail couldn't watch any longer and willed herself to stare at the ground.
The cook walked over and smiled warmly at Abigail.
"Are you alright, my dear?"
Abigail only nodded before walking out the room. Only Flora saw the tears in her eyes as she walked away.
