Chapter 1:
Hi, I am Sofia, and I am a writer from New York. I was walking to my apartment. While walking I see this guy walking in the opposite direction, and I cannot help but stare. We make eye contact, and it is like I know this man I just cannot put my finger on it. I get to my apartment and right as I walk through the door, I see a path of rose petals, leading to the living room. And at the end of it my fiancé sitting at a table with white cloth and Champaign on top. He motions for me to sit down, and I do I sit right across from him and watch as he pours me a glass of Champaign. He fills it about halfway and then gives me a glass. He asks me if I would like the appetizers and I say "yes."
He walks to the kitchen and grabs some chips with some salsa. We talk a little about our day and eat chips.
"All right," he says" are you ready for the main meal?" he asks.
"Of course, I would love some "I say."
And he walks back into the kitchen with the plate and the left-over salsa. I smell something amazing, and I know it is, well because Michael owns and cooks for the best restaurant in New York. He walks back out with steak and A1 steak sauce with fancy green leaves on them. He sits down and I say, "mm smells amazing.
" He says "thank you Sofia. I have a surprise for you."
"Another one?" I say.
He waits a second and then says, "I am bringing you to Charlottesville!"
"You are taking me to your hometown?" I say, surprisingly.
"Yes, he says excited "we will be going in two days and will be there until the day after easter, so get packing."
Two days later I see myself on a plane heading to a small town in Verginia named Charlottesville. And the thing is, I do not even know if his parents will like me, I never met them in person. My engagement was set up by my parents and his parents, but I have never met them before. I am so nervous and excited at the same time. I wish I had already met them I mean I am marrying their son in a few months. I should have met them already when he offered to take me to meet them, but I always find some excuse. I am simply scared to meet them.
When we get off the plane his parents are waiting for us at the airport. I see them right away because I have seen many pictures of them. I am instantly terrified. They walk up to us with very stuck looks on their faces. Once they get to us his mom lets out a little chuckle and then starts to laugh because of the scared look on my face. I intuitively know what happened because I know my fiancé. He texted them on the plane to tell them I was scared once I realized what had happened, I look directly at Michael, and he gives me a smug look. And then I see his mom rushing in to hug me and his dad smiling hugging him. We talk for a minute or two and we get in the car. I hear him and his parents talking, while I am on my phone texting my friends and family telling them we made it safely and I hear them say that someone else who is coming to meet me and I am even more worried, but I do not say anything because I want to make a good impression and I do not want them to think I am snooping.
An hour later we are at his parents' house, and it is huge. I did not think it was as big as it is, but it was a big house, and I felt a little more ok because that means there is more room for me. And I can breathe but when it is getting late, I ask Michael. Who were you and your parents talking about? He says, "oh we were talking about my brother." your brother? You never told me much about him." I say." well he is never ever home. He is always traveling." He says so I just say "ok, I can't wait to meet him then." Then we go downstairs and meet his parents in the kitchen. They are making us some fancy lasagna dishes. they are talking about has brother and how he is coming to meet me tomorrow. I am a little nervous to meet him, but I have seen pictures of him and Michael as kids.
