"Are you sure this is the BEST idea?" I looked over to Silco who just kept his eye on the blue haired little girl. Earlier this evening there had been a huge explosion when fighting Vander and this little girl had cried herself into Silcos arms.
We had taken her back to the Last Drop and made her a snack. And here we are watching as she scarfed down the food while me and Silco are standing behind the bar. I looked at him staring at her- he seemed intrigued by her and honestly I was too.
I decided to speak up, "Um hi, I'm y/n what's your name?" she stopped eating for a second and looked down to her lap so I spoke up again, "it's alright if your not ready to talk I would just like to know what your comfortable with me calling you."
"It's jinx, my name is jinx." She sounded sad but firm
"Alrighty well jinx don't eat your food too fast or else your going to throw up." i smiled trying to lighten the mood.
She giggled a bit and continued to eat.
I walked over back to Silco raising my eyebrows at him.
"She might be useful." He said
"Yes she could, don't stress her too hard though she is a child and she had just been threw so much tonight."
Silco glared at me with a small smirk, "Your too empathetic sometimes I dont know why I keep you close."
"Oh shush who says empathy is bad?"
"It can get you killed."
"Doesn't make me any less empathetic Silco."
"True but you need to work on it."
I rolled my eyes at him.
"Jinx would you like to take a shower?" She must be so tired.
"Yes please."
I gestured her towards the bathroom and showed her where everything was, "if you need anything- holler for me okay?" She gave me a quick nod. I wanted to leave her alone for a bit letting her have some time to herself after what went down tonight.
I walked to Silcos office while he was fixing himself a drink. He heard one of the floor boards creak as I stepped in and his eyes locked with mine. He sat in his chair slumped over swirling his whiskey around.
"Want a drink?" He stared blankly
I plopped myself down on his couch letting my arms rest as my head tilted back. "Yes please." He started fixing me drink as I watched him. He would give me glances every now and then which followed with me give him a small smile. He never gave one back but it didn't matter since I dont see him smile that often.
Me and Silco have been friends for years, though we always have had stronger connections beyond that. We both feel it and we know we do but we refuse to talk about any of it. He was too busy with his work and I was always working on missions. Plus he and I were never the best at communicating our feelings about these kinds of things.
"Here you go my dear." He said while handing me a drink. 'My dear' what a funny little pet name he always used for me. For some reason we would always give each other small pet names like 'love' and 'darling' and of course 'my dear'. We never talked about why and we probably never will, not that I'm complaining of course. Confrontation whether good or bad was never in my strong suit. It's not that I don't like having answers I just have a hard time saying things.
"Thank you Silco, come sit next to me." I patted the cushions. He walked over and plopped himself near me. His arms resting on the back of the couch so one was slightly around me. Why did he always do this? Give me the slightest care and affection making me think 'is this it? the moment when something happens?' but then again he could also be waiting for me to make the first move. But what if I'm making it all up in my head? What if there is nothing there and I'm overreacting. Whatever just stop thinking about it.
"So what should we do with that jinx girl?" My head turned to Silco. He had a puzzled look on his face, "We can train her, we can use her to the best of her abilities, she can be great and she can help us."
"Silco you do understand that we will also have to take care of her too. She is a human being and not just a weapon, are you prepared to take care of her as well as dealing with your work?"
"She'll be fine. I'll give her the basic necessities and she can go about on her own under this roof."
"Whatever you say- but for now let's drink to having a brand new member, to jinx!" I say raising my drink slightly in the air. Silco smiled at me and clinked his drink to mine, "To jinx."
