INTERLUDE -    PART I:    STICKY SPIDER

━━━━━━༻🕸༺━━━━━━

I noted everything down to remember why each and every universe was not suitable, why I quit all of them and moved on to the next. Alas, I feel my memories as scrambled eggs, which I haven't had in a long time: they don't stay in one piece -as one egg- for a long time, but rather get minced and mixed into a puzzle which over the years got a bit too big for me to solve during the two days or during the stay here.

"It is a literal road," Peter tapped his foot on the mirror pathway we stumbled across. Finally, we were leaving Universe 2709 and for once, I was glad of my fear of looking back anymore.

No matter how much I liked hearing Peter's little chuckles, tiny giggles of wonder that were the embodiment of the safety I missed, that safety of knowing the second day means excitement for a new universe, it did not last. I took only a few steps down the road, not looking down, not taking into consideration the sways of the mirrors and the way the vibrated and caused illusions of motion were you to stare down into your reflections for too long. No reflections looked as they should on that Road; whenever I looked down I could see myself reflected in different stages of my life because the Multiverse too likes to note down and remember, even of the second I first stepped foot there.

"Why is that thing looking for you?" He asked. A reasonable question, but not exactly what I needed then and there. It was uncomfortable and it risked plucking out my defenses, when we were in a hurry. "Better question actually... What was that thing exactly?"

"Dormammu, he lives in the Dark Dimension of each universe," I explained the best I could, in shortness of words.

"And why is he after you then?"

"I don't remember."

I saw it on his face then: he didn't believe me.

Of course, no one could know better than myself how very taunting the whole situation was to the full of my capabilities being halved by my friend, the Multiverse. I called them friend, but they mocked me at each step by allowing people like Sierra Harss and apparently many others to travel them with far less hussle. Or literally mock my every step because down below my feet, hidden in the mirrors were parts of my life spent on the road that I remembered less and less clearly. Always, a step ahead of me, was the reflection of deep purple.

That was the best explanation I could give Peter, yet even that, I felt was not enough. So I just did not answer at all, but rather simply kept on moving away, stomping towards the next universe's gateway.

"Not that one," Peter exclaimed. He stepped much more careful, trying to jump only on the sides of the diamond shaped mirror that it looked like he should have stepped on. He was calculating everything and I wish I could have stopped him from wasting time trying to make sense of the Multiverse. There was no sense to them.

"Why not?"

"Sierra said she'll be coming back for us," he brought up a topic which reminded me of my own annoyance and what I wished to discuss. "So she'll probably look in the next one first. It will buy us some time to go further away, if you don't mind."
