Author's point of view
"One, two, three, four, five, six, seven...."
Her index finger immediately flew on her mandible and hummed in a questioning tone.
"Where did the eighth gift go?", She asked herself, and a left eyebrow lifted furiously. Before this day, she counted all the gifts under the Christmas tree. It was all eight enormous gifts; she knew it was eight since she was the one who wrapped them wholeheartedly. Maybe she misplaced it somewhere, but she's not thinking of losing it since she covered it and placed it, for instance, under the tree.
It was already the four-thirty pm on December 24, and she was busy preparing things for the night since all of her friends, plus Koko's friends, would be here in her apartment to celebrate and wait till the arm of the clock struck at exactly midnight. From cleaning the living room and decorating it with a bunch of Christmas kinds of stuff, she could feel her body collapse anytime. She went from arranging the decorations on the living room table, placing Christmas balls on the tree, hanging Christmas socks, and many more. Her body has been working since the night of December 23, and she only took a 1-hour power nap.
She was thanking God in her mind when she heard all foods and beverages for the night are now the responsibilities of her guests. She won't be bothering herself to cook multiple dishes, but she promised herself that she would be baking Christmas cookies and a cake as her part of the contribution.
Her thoughts go poof like a bubble when she suddenly hears a loud doorbell from the entrance of her apartment. She is in a hurry while fixing her wild-like hair; it was a total disaster. When she opened the door, a man wearing a red coat hanging on his shoulders and a black polo with white pants welcomed her. He was smirking while eyeing her from head to top. That was two times in a row, as if there was dirt on her face.
Mockery was the first thing she smelled on him while looking up and down at her while observing his look. She was about to close the door when a sudden foot blocked the way, then a head peep in between the door and door frame, "I'm sorry, love.", He apologized and winked at her teasingly. Rolling her eyes, and made a 'hmp" sound as a response. She wasn't hurt or angry about it; she was only playing with him as he did on her.
She opened the door, widely and Koko's gaze went wide, and his mouth opened a little in awe. He strolled inside, absorbing the feeling he felt the first time he looked at the decorations and designs. Looking around every inch of the house, Koko focused on the picture frames sitting on the top of the fireplace, but the picture frame of him and she caught his attention. He lowered his head and smiled like a kid.
"Yo-you don't like it?", She asked, agitated. Her heart feels like it's about to explode in a mixed feeling of anxiety and disappointment. She wasn't a fan who likes arts or designing things. Her instinct was why she ended up like this inside her apartment, and she believed it.
