There's a knock on my door. I ignore it and roll over. A few moments later it opens anyway. Someone walks in and sits on my bed. I can smell that it's Sophia. Her scent fills my nostrils and my mind flashes back to what Tristan told me.

"You're a werewolf."

It just can't be possible. It just can't be.

"Mirella? Sweetie, your dad's worried about you. He said you looked upset when you left the cafe a few hours ago." She says, gently rubbing my back.

I turn away. "It's no big deal. Just a little argument."

"Honey, you never argue with Tristan. What happened?"

I turn to face her. "Am I a werewolf?"

She freezes and stares at me. "What?"

"Am. I. A. Werewolf?"

Sophia stands up. "Come with me."

I haul myself out of bed and follow her. She leads me outside and we sit on the porch. She pulls out a picture of a young couple. They're very nice looking, but they don't look much older than me. And the girl is pregnant.

But the thing that sticks out the most is that the picture was taken in front of this very house. They're staring, happily, into the camera, but it looks a little forced. Almost like they don't want anyone to know they're together.

"These are your parents." Sophia says softly.

I take the picture from her hands and study it. They don't look much like me, but I can see a resemblance in the facial structure. Their eyes are the bright yellow that Tristan explained to me is the one thing that no matter what a werewolf looks like, is the thing you can spot them by. "Where are they?" I ask.

Sophia sets her hand on my back. "They're married and living with their family. Do you want to hear the story?"

I nodded and she settled in to start.

"Your parents came through here when they were heavily pregnant with you. They stopped into the diner where your father works. When they left, your father bumped into them out on the street, they were trying to get their car started. Chris told them that they could stay with him for the night and he would help them jump their car the next day.

"The next morning, they weren't feeling up to travel, or at least, your mother wasn't. So they stayed with him a little while. Your parents had a sort of Romeo and Juliet thing going on with their relationship. They were 18, married, and from feuding families. Your mother was the daughter of the Mac Coliums and your father was the son of the Carlisles, both governing families of the werewolf world. The families have been at odds with each other since the dawn of time.

"At any rate, your parents were terrified about having you. They knew that their marriage would be hard enough for their parents to accept but a baby? They would have been disowned and left with nothing to raise you on. One night when talking with Chris, they came to the agreement that he would adopt you from birth.

"The night you were born, every werewolf in the world could feel the change in the air, as well as most of the other supernatural creatures. All except your parents of course."

"Of course." I mutter.

Sophia glares at me. "At any rate, your parents were so stressed out from the birth and just wanted to leave Moonlight Falls. Your parents never even saw your face. They didn't want to grow attached to you. It's unfortunate, if they'd seen your eyes they would have kept you and you would have grown up aware of who you are. But they didn't, and you've been raised with Chris ever since.
