Ella
ELLA AWOKE PROMPTLY at 8:00am when her alarm went off. The morning had finally come, and it was now graduation day.
After all the hard work she had put in throughout the years, it was all about to finally pay off. She could not be more excited.
She checked her phone before getting out of bed and was not surprised to see that she had zero notifications. She knew her friends would be sleeping in since the graduation ceremony wasn't until the evening. Ella was too excited to sleep, so she figured waking up early would be the best for her.
Ella crawled out of bed and threw on a sweatshirt before heading downstairs. She took a look in the mirror at the top of the stairs, trying to capture every memory she could of this day.
No one in her family was awake yet, which also didn't surprise her. She grabbed a banana from the counter and went back up to her room, it didn't feel right to eat in the empty kitchen.
Ella sat on her bed and reflected on her high school experience as she stared at her freshly-steamed graduation gown. She remembered how competitive she was with schoolwork against her brother, Cori, who unfortunately (for Ella) had received valedictorian and would not stop rubbing it in her face.
She then reflected on the first time all her current friends had met, minus Maurie of course. It was freshman year, Lainey (Ella's BEST friend) had been raving about this boy named Greg she had met in her English class and insisted Ella had to meet him.
Greg had a friend as well, Toby, who he had been raving about Lainey to.
Seemingly by fate, the four of them ran into each other in the parking lot after school and instantly clicked, like it was destined for them to be friends. The four of them drove to the local gas station and talked for hours over slushies.
Greg was...well he was Greg. He was your typical jock, but Ella could tell deep down that he was one of the most caring people she had ever met. He did a great job of hiding it though. He was on the football team, which gave the other three a reason to attend the games, despite not quite understanding football.
Toby quickly became Ella's confidant, she felt like she could tell him anything and knew that he would never tell a soul. It sort of felt like they were the same person. They were always on the same page, no matter the situation. They shared a sort of secret language that no one else in the group could quite understand, but it was purely platonic of course.
Ella suddenly snapped back into reality when she heard a loud banging on her door. Sighing, she got up off her bed and opened her door.
"Happy graduation day kiddo!"
The voice came from her dad, who it seemed also had the idea to wakeup early. He probably heard Ella rummaging around her room and figured she was awake.
