Janice
"When are you two gonna learn to shut the fuck up?" Mason sighed.
"I don't know, Mason," Mark teased, "Maybe when Janice decides to come to her senses, and agree with me for once."
I laughed
"Not even in your wildest dreams, dumbass."
"Alright, alright, before you two start bitching at each other, let's at least get out of the airlock," Mason offered.
"Fair enough," I said, making sure my E.V.A. helmet was properly secured to my suit.
Mason keyed his inter-comm, "Peter, we good to go?"
There was a 5 second pause before he responded, "Um... Yeah, you guys are good. I'm depressurizing the airlock."
"Opening the door now," Mark announced.
Once the door opened, the three of us were greeted to the cold, soundless vacuum of space. The only thing that I could hear was our ragged breaths over the comms. I was the first to jump, or rather, drift towards the vessel. The only thing that kept us on course was our thruster packs.
Off in the distance was the freighter, its big, bulky hull made our ship look like an ant in comparison.
"Wait, guys, are those... lights?" Mark asked.
He was right, for once. There were lights towards the right-hand side of the ship. Not many, but there were some.
"I thought Kyle said the freighter was abandoned," I said, puzzled.
"He did," Mason said, he sounded just as confused, "Which could either mean someone beat us to it, or-"
"It isn't abandoned at all," I suggested.
After a brief moment, Mason finally said, "Peter, it looks like there's someone on the ship, try contacting them. I'm sure the Mortem has better radio contact than we do, how copy?" Mason called.
"Yeah, I copy," He said in reply, "USCSS Tenebris, this is the captain of the scavenging freighter Mortem, registration number is MSV-2219, we have legal rights to confiscate anything of value that you have in your possession. Three crew members are entering your vessel portable, over."
After a minute had passed, there was no acknowledgment to Peter's message.
"Alright, so obviously someone's here," Mark started, "Maybe we can come to a compromise with them? I mean, only a small portion of the ship is powered on, so unless the rest of the ship lost power, then it's safe to assume that there is only a handful of people on the ship."
"They might not have anything to contact us with," I mentioned.
"Well we'll find out either way, once we get to the one of the airlocks," Mason said, "How 'bout we go to the airlock closest to the lights. For all we know, the rest of the ship isn't pressurized, and I'd rather not waste our oxygen."
Mark sighed,"Sounds like a plan."
The Tenebris got larger and larger has we drifted towards it, making slight adjustments to keep us on course. I couldn't help but wonder what happened to it. Such a marvel of human engineering, just sitting in the orbit of a dead planet. Then again, it wouldn't be 'dead', if Weyland-Yutani just put a couple atmospheric processing generator on the surface. However, what I've heard is that Delta Pavonis has no real value, so the Weyland corporation would rather not waste their time on something worthless. Which is understandable.
At the airlock, Mason pulled the handle that opened the door. We'd have to walk, or float, to the part of the ship that has lights on.
Once inside, the door closed, and the airlock automatically pressurized.
"Well, at least we know the ship has air," Mason said, taking off his helmet, "There's artificial gravity too."
I opened the door that led to the rest of the ship. We left our suits inside the airlock, for when we leave.
Now we were greeted to the dark corridors of the ship.
And we make the journey to the light.
