We walk through the streets after exiting the bar. My feet are starting to ache and she says hers are too. We stumble around a little bit and I realize just how much we had to drink. We try to not to talk about the paperboy offering us the paper with the headline as, DOOMSDAY. But we finally give up. She turns to me and says, "The button has been pressed." She lets out a sigh, as I think to myself, we're gonna nuke each other up boys, til old Satan stands impressed. As we round the corner to my apartment, it dawns on us. It's our final night alive. We feel a shaking under us, an earthquake. We run inside to take cover. We go to the couch and lie there, holding each other close. We turn on the TV to check about any news. "The atom bomb is locked in." A frightened reporter says. Those words ricochet in my mind, as the world caves in.
We put on black suits, and I paint my nails dark. "We'll be going out in style babe." I nervously chuckle to myself. I look out the window to see stores dimly lit. It's on sale! I joke to myself. I feel the air pressing around us. I pull her close to me and we weep. "Goodnight love." I tell her and she nestles closer to me. My organs press against my bones, gasping for clean air. We both know this is our final night alive. Another earthquake hits. We look at the TV again, people trying to run from the cloud of smoke from fallen buildings, swiftly creeping up on them.
Then the bomb goes off. It's her, that I welcome death with, as the world caves in.
