Last day of summer, Chapter 1
Sacha POV:
"Hey, Bean?" Caleb questioned. "Yeah, Bug?"
"Do you think people are going to hate me now that I'm team captain?" Caleb asked with puppy dog eyes. "Of course not, everyone at school loves you, hun." I guaranteed, pulling him closer to me.
We were chilling at Orageux. Orageux is this abandoned park that Caleb and I found when we were little. We started calling it Orageux since that means stormy in French and it always seems to start raining whenever we're here.
Caleb and I both used to live in France so we constantly name things after French words.
You may be a little confused. I'm Sacha, Caleb is my best friend and has been since preschool.
The first day of our junior year starts tomorrow and Caleb has been freaking out about everybody possibly, suddenly hating him now that he's the new team captain of the football team and is "only a wide receiver, that's nothing like a quarterback who almost always ends up being the team captain." as he likes to put it.
It's currently 12 at night and freezing in this Pennsylvania weather but Orageux always helps to calm our nerves so we're cuddled up under a blanket on one of the many yellow slides, suffering through it.
"Okay, I trust you." He assured. "Do you think things 'll be like last year?" Caleb questioned. "What do you mean, bug?" I asked. "People weren't very happy about how close we are last year." Caleb said shyly, looking at our clasped hands under the heavy fabric sitting on top of us.
Caleb and I have always been very close emotionally and definitely physically, and that seems to bother people sometimes, especially when it's a weird emo boy and the nicest, cutest, most popular boy in school, but neither of us has ever cared what they think, as long as we have each other.
"That was just a couple of jealous seniors bug, they're gone now so there's nothing to worry about. A new set of kids, a new set of perspectives." I tried to comfort him. His only acknowledgment was leaning his head on my shoulder and closing his eyes.
I feel kind of bad since there's an 'End Of Summer Party' going on right now that Caleb could've gone to but he insisted that he didn't want to go and that all he wanted to do was spend his last day of summer with me.
"It's fucking freezing out here." Caleb complained, nuzzling his nose into my neck to keep warm. I pulled off my signature black ripped hoodie and silently handed it over to my best friend. "Thanks, bean." He said softly, with a lazy smile.
"Hey, did you get that psychology class you wanted?" Caleb questioned. "Yup, psych 3." I exclaimed proudly.
"Bet your father's not too happy bout that." He sighed. I flinched only slightly at the mention of my father but Caleb still seemed to somehow notice and immediately changed the subject.
"What's your schedule look like?" He asked.

I handed over my phone where I had pulled up my new schedule.
"Yes," Caleb shrieked. I chuckled at his excitement, he really is adorable. "We have 5 whole periods together, that's more than I could have ever asked for." Caleb beamed as he spoke.

I saw when he flashed me his phone screen. "That's great hun." I said smiling at the beautiful boy beside me.
We held each other on the yellow slide for a few more hours. Caleb dozed off at some point but I couldn't sleep.
I stayed up thinking about what this year might entail. All I can hope is that everything will stay the same to continue on just as the years before and only change for the better.
When it started snowing I gently lifted Caleb and started walking home. He woke up about five minutes in and wrapped his long legs around my waist and rested his head on my shoulder so that it was easier for me to carry him.
Caleb quickly slid back off to dreamland and let me carry his weight better.
"Hello, Sacha." Caleb's mom greeted me. I've known the Humez family since I was three years old so walking through the front door with their sleeping son in my arms is a very common occurrence by now so they didn't even bat an eye.
"Hi Marie, hey père. How was your day?" I question. "It was great hunny, how was yours?" Marie asked me. "It was good, kind of tiring but other than that I had fun." I said, readjusting the boy in my arms.
"That's good son, why don't you go set him down and get some rest." Père suggested. "Alright, goodnight. I'll see you both in the morning." I said with a smile before slipping up to our room.
They both said their own individual goodbyes before turning back to the wedding album they were busy flipping through.
After I got in the room and flipped on the light I set him down on the bed and crawled in bed alongside him. I began to toe off my shoes when I heard him whisper, "Goodnight bean," still practically asleep.
I turn over to look at my best friend and am amazed that he has stuck with me after all this time but I am eternally grateful, I couldn't have asked for anyone better.
"Goodnight bug," I whispered back.
I stayed up for another hour, thinking about all the ways this year could go wrong but with Caleb by my side I know I'll be able to get through all of it.
Caleb cuddled into my side and that was all I needed to fall into the short-lived coma that we humans like to call sleep.
