Care, Chapter 3
Caleb Pov:
It is now the second period of the first day of school, gym class. I'm playing basketball on one of the outside courts with some other people while Sacha is sitting on the bleachers watching us.
My team was winning by 20 points. I only play football but I am apparently also good at other sports.
I had the ball and I was dribbling towards the basket but I suddenly tripped over someone's foot and fell forwards. My knees scraped against the concrete and my left wrist slammed against the ground.
Sacha immediately came running towards me with his stupid bag which will probably come in pretty handy now actually.
In the fourth grade, I was bullied a lot which usually ended with me having ripped pants and a busted lip, because of that Sacha filled up a whole duffle bag of everything I could ever need, just incase something happens.
Now Sacha carries around what he calls my safety pack and his own backpack but he never complains so I let him since I know it makes him feel better.
He knelt down next to me and immediately cupped my face in cold, slim hands. "Are you okay? Do I need to call the nurse? Nevermind I'm gonna go get the nurse, wait no I can't leave you by yourself. I'll send somebody el..." I cut off Sacha's rant by grabbing his hand and beginning to talk.
"Bean I'm fine, all I need is a band-aid out of that handy dandy pack that you love to drag around and I'll be fine." I say. Sacha grabbed his body disinfectant wipes and gently wiped away the dirt and blood. He blew on my scrapes to then put on the bandaids and help me up.
He grabbed my hands and pulled me to my feet which caused me to immediately wince from the pull on my wrist that was apparently slammed on the concrete when I fell not too long ago.
"Whats wrong? Es-tu blessé? Est ce que je t'ai blessé? Avez-vous besoin d'aller à l'hôpital?" Sacha started with a worried face.
"Bean, I'm fine. I just hit my wrist when I fell, it's probably just going to hurt for a little while, it's not broken." I said to reassure him. "Did I make it worse? Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry..." I said, cutting off Sacha for the third time in five minutes by putting my hands on the side of his face.
"Bean?" I said simply, looking him in the eyes. "Bug?" He asked. "I am fine hun. It doesn't even hurt anymore, see?" I said, moving my wrist around to prove my point.
Sacha seemed to calm then and even seemed calm enough to sit back down and let me keep playing but some dumbass just had to open his mouth.
"That was the gayest shit I've ever seen." Some random boy that I was playing ball with said.
"puis-je le frapper?" Sacha asked in french so that the boy wouldn't understand. I didn't bother responding since we both knew Sacha would be way too scared to actually hurt somebody. Instead, I just sent a small smile his way and he did the same to me.
I reached back and grabbed his hand to then interlock our fingers and drag him back to his seat but I sat down with him this time. We talked about who thought to mix peanut butter, bread, and jelly together for the remainder of the class period.
Before we knew it, it was eighth period, the last period of the day. The second we walked into the room I read on the board that we are supposed to go into the teacher's desk before we sit down for attendance.
I have had an extremely stressful day and I will cry if I am not being coddled in Sacha's arms in the next three minutes. We walked up to the teacher with our hands linked together, about to give her our names. Her desk was in the very back of the room with the student desks facing away from her and towards the board instead.
"Hello Ms, I'm Sacha Bell and this is Caleb Humez." Sacha said for me since he knows that I really don't want to talk to anyone right now. "Hello boys, I am Mrs. Wescher or you can just call me Ms.W. I have actually heard about you two. Your the ones that are super close best friends and it's best not to separate you? Am I right?" She questions us with a kind voice.
Not only have teachers probably gossiped about us like the wanna-be high schoolers they are but I was also leaning on Sacha and refusing to talk to anyone but him so it was probably very obvious who we were.
"That is correct and I normally wouldn't ask this but Caleb has had a really bad day and just needs a minute so would it be alright if we were a bit close for just a couple minutes?" Sacha asks her for me, rocking back and forth on his heels.
"That's totally fine. You can be as close as you want for the rest of the period, we're just going to be watching a movie since it's only the first day so do as you like." Ms.W says.
I just decided that this is my most favorite teacher of all time. All of my other teachers have been getting onto me all day for silly stuff like not having an eraser, being on the football team (because for some reason me being on the football team automatically makes me dumb), etc.
"Thank you very much Mrs.Wescher." Sacha says to be polite. Sacha and I walk away and sit in the back, practically right next to the teachers desk. Sacha sits down first and I sit in his lap. Straight away, Sacha wrapped his arms around my waist and rested his chin on my shoulder and next he rested his head against mine.
I immediately felt better, just by being in my best friends arms but Sacha could still sense that I was a little upset so he just had to start with the jokes. "Hey bug?" Sacha asked, getting my attention away from the movie that was going on in front of me. "Yeah bean?" I questioned back.
"I'm no electrition but I think I may know what will light up your day." I snort. "Not at a terrible joke like that?" I say. "Are you sure? I heard you like science. It must be true since I have my ion you." Sacha continued with the awful dad jokes.
I cracked a smile at not only the joke but also how hard he was trying to cheer me up.
I looked around the room and saw many people staring. I began to get nervous again and Ms.W seemed to notice what I did and leaned over her desk to ask us if we were okay. "Yeah were fine, kinda used to the stares at this point." I said to her. Ms.W went back to the papers on her desk and Sacha ran soothing circles on my hips with the tips of his fingers.
My day is looking up. When the final bell rang Sacha and I grabbed our skateboards and went home.
*That night*
When we were about to go to bed for the night Sacha leaned over me and turned off the lamp and whispered a soft, "Goodnight bug, I love you."
"Goodnightbean, I love you too." I whole heartedly say back.
