A Dangerous Game

A Myth

"Evelyn, Evelyn are you there?" Lila knocks on my door.
"You heard what my Father said." I say
"It is not right."
"Please just leave me alone, the guard won't unlock it anyway." I sigh
I hear her walk away.
I stare into the fire, it's flames roar and crackle. I wish that I could just burn this awful castle down.

It's been two days now, god what is wrong with my father? Lila hasn't stopped by spence yesterday, I wonder what she's doing? My fire has gone out, so it's as cold in here as a dungeon would be. I walk up to the door,
"Hello." I say
No answer,
"Hey, I know someone is there."
Still no answer,
"Alright you listen to me, you may go tell my father that pretty soon, I'm just gonna jump out this window. I've had enough."
I hear someone run away so I go over and sit down. If they don't come soon, I will jump.

A few minutes pass then I hear the turning of a key in a lock. A guard steps in, followed by my father. I stand up as he comes near me.
"Do you now know you're place?" My father asks
"Yes, I do." I say as I look down
"Good, now make sure you always know you're place. Cause if this happens again, I'll put you in the dungeon." He walks out and shuts the door behind him.
I let out the breath I was holding in, I have to get out of here. Lila suddenly comes rushing into my room.
"Are you okay?" She asks
"Yes, I'm okay." I say
"I have something for you." She hands me a large brown book.
"What is this for?" I ask
"There's a myth in it, I think you'll find it interesting." She smiles and walks out.
I look at the book, the cover reads, The Myth of the War's Kingdom.
"War's Kingdom?" I say
I walk over to my bed, sit down, and open to the first page. I begin to read and I realize what Lila meant.

After hours of reading I finally flip to the last page, read it, then close the book. I smile,I know what I must do now. War's Kingdom is a kingdom that is said to be a myth, but I think that I can find it. It is a kingdom that is said to have the power to overthrow any kingdom. My thought is that maybe they can overthrow my father. He may be my father but I do not care for him one bit. I want to end his rain of terror, I want to save countless kingdoms from his massacres. I look out of my window, evening fills the sky with fire.
"I can leave tonight." I say
I go over to my chest and pull out my mother's old dress. It's black with partial green sleeves. I slip on my black boots, grab a sack and put my book and a small blanket in it. I quickly brush my hair and slip out of my room. I go down the long, spiral staircase, go down a few halls and slip into the kitchen. I grab a few apples, two loafs of bread, an empty canteen, and a few scones. I slip those into my sack and head out to one of the many back doors. As I walk down the halls, my heart pounds in my head. If I get caught, I'm as good as dead. As I near one of the back doors, I can see a guard standing watch.
"Shit." I whisper under my breath
"Who goes there?" The guard says
"Um, the princess." I try to say confidently.
"What business do you have down here?" He asks as I reach him.
"I was going to go for a walk." I say
"Sorry miss but I cannot allow it." He says
I grab his arm,
"Please, I need some fresh air. I just want to go to the gardens."
He lets out a sigh and nods,
"Go." he says as he opens the door.
"Oh thank you kind sir." I say as I head out the door.
I smile and sneak along the stone wall towards the bridge that the servants take to get to the village.

I made it, across the bridge that is. A sigh of relief goes through me as I set out to the lands that lie beyond the village. The dangerous lands, filled with bandits, pirates, evil kings, gypsies, and many more bad people. My heart pounds as I take my first step into the world. I just hope that I'll make it to the kingdom in time, before my father finds me!
