Chapter 2: Another Day, Another Dollar.

Drifting deeper into your dreams you get flashes of your past. How you left to explore and find new ventures out in the city. How you wanted more for your life, but could never truly find purpose. Only to be met with fear and disappointment. It would've been a continuous cycle if you hadn't been pushed to your limit by your toxic lifestyle. The moment you left however, felt like you finally dropped the heavy chains of responsibility and pressure that came with staying in such a place. You didn't care how long it would be, nor how far you had to go, all you knew was that you've had enough of this shit.

Suddenly you get flashes of how it felt like a literal hellscape of never ending misery and sorrow. The voices of your past coming back to haunt you in quick strides, until you wake up. The sounds of your alarm on your phone as you slowly rise from the bed. Your hair a mess and your eyes blurred. You slowly take your phone and turn off the alarm. As you let off a long yawn and get out of bed. In the morning you then make your way to the bathroom and prepare to go see a mechanic about your car. On your phone you listen to the news of Raccoon City and Umbrella Corporation. The daily news reports and weather scans. Once you've gained the important bits out, you switch to your music player and listen to some tunes as you shower and put your clothes on. Ready to leave you go to peace the door, just as Jill was about to knock on your door. Instead of Jill knocking on wood, she instead accidentally knocks on your breasts. Jill gets embarrased and apologizes quickly "Oh my god, I'm so sorry I didn't mean to-" she stammers. You then tell her it's alright and ask her what she's doing.

Jill then answers "Well I was about to go for a coffee run and was wondering if you were interested?" You lean against your doorframe and ask why. "No particular reason, just wanted to get to know you more." Jill said honestly. Feeling intrigued you go along with this coffee date and go downstairs to the entrance. Jill then asks "So what brings you to Raccoon City?" You tell her exactly what you told the front desk man. "I know a guy that can get your car fixed!" Jill suggests. You ask her where they are, and Jill answers that it's actually nearby the coffee place they are going to. So you make your way towards the coffee shop. You both sit there whilst having a nice chat about one another waiting for your coffee. You learn that she is part of a special investigation group at Racoon Police Department, her hobbies, and some weird conspiracy theories she's into. When you both finished up your chat, you went to the mechanic's shop. Jill asks the mechanic to look at your ride for her, with a discount of course. After such hospitality you tell Jill that you owe her one, to which she gladly holds you to.

It's been 2 months of living in Raccoon City and you've become quite accustomed to living here. At first you never thought of staying here. Until Jill coerced you into staying. Now you spend your days enjoying the town and seeing the same people towards your commute to work. Having landing a job at TerraSave Organization as a reporter. Your new job has its challenges but you still enjoy coming to work to do the right thing. Life is actually good. You feel in control, and nothing terrible has happened that could tell you otherwise. Finally you feel your life is turned around for the better. Working late one night you come across another reporter who's fallen asleep at her desk. It was time to close up so you go to her desk and wake her up gently. The person sleeping is murmuring in her sleep, too tired to wake up. So you lean forward to coax them awake. To no avail. Instead you go get a cold cup of water, dip your finger in it, and let some trickle on the back of her nape. This trick causes the woman to wake up with a shiver and shriek. You then say Good morning sleepy head in an immature tone.

Obviously you are met with a "What the hell?!" From your fellow coworker. She runs the back of her neck and let's out a big sigh. "What time is it?" She says, as she looks to her watch. "Shit, this late?" "My bad." She gets up from her desk and grabs her belongings and her red jacket off of her chair. As she stands up though you see her bra strap thanks to the water. You obviously notice it seeing it's dark red through a mildly wet white T. Turning around and putting her jacket on your coworker thanks you as she heads out to leave. Without much thought you bid farewell and head out yourself. As you continue down the stairs you see a familiar face by the entrance waiting for you. Its Jill, she's just standing there with an umbrella obviously waiting for you. Jill outfit is her usual tight black jeans and her blue white tank top with a raincoat from the RCPD. As you walk through the spinning doors, Jill turns 'round and greets you happily. You both make your way back to the your apartment. As the rain continued to pour you talk to Jill about work. You tell her all about the projects your working on and she just smiles and nods along to your story. Jill then let's out a little giggle as she brushes her hair behind her ear. You notice that her shoulder is getting wet. You ask her if it's alright that she's getting wet. She shrugs it off and says it's alright. But you couldn't help feeling bad. So you tell her your gonna come closer. Jill is a little shy about you coming closer, but you do so anyway. She tenses up as you brush shoulders together. She's soft and warm. As you look to her she looks away from you to avoid your gaze. In a huff she tries to make light of the subject by saying you smell nice. Somehow making the situation is more awkward. You both walk in silence seemingly both enjoying this moment. Without realizing it though you both make it back home. You feel bittersweet of how short it felt but still glad it happened. Upon closing the umbrella, you and Jill greet the clerk. You've found that the clerks name is Barry and he is actually a really nice old man. The reason why he was so desolate and bleak was because of a loss in the family that got to him. Nevertheless what once was a sad chagrin was now a smiling sunshine.

Jill makes her way to the elevator waiting for you patiently to finish your brief chat with Barry. You then make your way towards Jill as she smiles at your little friendship with the clerk. Jill adds that she was surprised that you two had got it off almost immediately in your first three weeks of staying here. You mention that you knew he was good just tired. Jill looks to you admirably as your sense of character judgement is astonishing. Then the elevator door opens. You both go down the hall and continue talking. Whenever you and Jill converse it never seems to end, you both are able to keep each others interests and make each other laugh. Like you two have your own little bubble. Sadly though as all good things happen they must come to an end. You reach your doors and say goodnight to each other, smiling brightly.

Thus ends Chapter 2: Another Day Another Dollar.
