Tanjiro and Kanao would eventually marry and start a family, having two great-grandchildren by the names of Kanata Kamado and Sumihiko Kamado between them.
But Demon Slayer introduced Tanjiro's main love interest briefly, and she doesn't really return until the end of the season, when she is fighting against him. His love interest that develops as the story goes on is Kanao Tsuyuri and their romance is quite adorable.
This ship is very popular inside the Demon Slayer fandom although ZenNezu and TanKana are canon pairings, the fans ship these two boys together from their first encounter and interactions from the manga and above all the anime, where they have more suggestive interactions than in the manga.
Canon. Tanjiro and Kanao met for the first time on the Final Selection Exam, being two of the five only survivors. However, they never arrive to interact there, and both of them set off separately. The next time they meet is on the Natagumo Mountain Arc, where Kanao knocks out Tanjiro in order to kill Nezuko.
Kanao's birthday was decided to be May 19, the day when Shinobu and Kanae adopted her. She is currently 16 years old, making her older than Tanjiro.
