fifth year!
harry and (y/n) are menaces
- - -Dream Interpretation was just as dull a topic as any other covered during Divination, even more so when they'd been stuck on it for half a school year. (Y/N) and Harry sat at a small round table in the heavily perfumed classroom, half asleep. Their assignment for that day was to yet again share their dreams and decipher what they meant. (Y/N) grew tired of it very quickly when the first two dreams she could remember divined her imminent doom.
Professor Trelawney stopped at their table, big, round eyes peering at them expectantly. (Y/N) spared her a sidelong glance before she gave in and reached for the leather bound book.
"You've shared your dreams?" she nodded as she asked, looking between the pair.
"No," Harry grunted, clearly annoyed.
"Just about to," (Y/N) said.
Trelawney nodded again, still looking at them. She would not leave until they demonstrated some understanding.
"Oh, well..." (Y/N) passed The Dream Oracle to Harry; she knew he did not want to share his recurring dream of the graveyard and Cedric, let alone to Trelawney. "It was my turn, actually,"
Harry accepted the book, looking grateful.
"Go on then," Trelawney waved her along, looking hopeful.
"Um... well in my dream..." (Y/N) glanced outside. "It was snowing,"
"Mhm,"
"And it was–cold,"
"Oh," Trelawney nodded.
"Freezing actually," (Y/N) said. "But, you know, it felt cheerful,"
Off of Trelawney's sincerely interested bobbing of her head, Harry nodded, too, doing nothing to hide his amusement. And of course, (Y/N) couldn't help but smile, too.
"How about giving?" he questioned. "Did you feel giving?"
"Oh, yeah, so giving,"
"It must've been around Christmas time,"
Trelawney's eyes went wide with interest. (Y/N) feigned surprise.
"It must've been!" she agreed. "That explains why I was holding a gift!"
"A gift?" Harry prodded. "For who?"
"Why," (Y/N) furrowed her brows together. "I think it was for you,"
Trelawney made a strangled sort of noise. Before she could mention that it may be an omen for his untimely demise, Harry leaned forward.
"For me?"
"It was small; could fit in one hand. And it was moving—"
Trelawney gasped. "Oh!
"But not in a dangerous sort of way," (Y/N) clarified.
"Oh," she nodded thoughtfully.
Harry did the same, albeit with a teasing air. "I think I know what it all means,"
Hanging on to his every word, Trelawney fixed her bug-like eyes on him. "Go on, go on," she waved her thin hands excitedly.
"You've bought me a gift," Harry said. "A chocolate frog, for Christmas."
Trelawney looked at (Y/N) for confirmation. She put on quite the spectacle of surprise.
"I did!" she exclaimed, voice light with awe. She turned to her professor. "That's what I got him! How did you know?"
Harry shrugged, still grinning. Professor Trelawney almost looked tearful. "I knew you had the Gift, Potter," she said. "Keep practicing and we'll make a Seer of you, yet." She patted his hand, muttering a soft, "Oh," and giving him a sad sort of look before wandering off to watch Lavender and Parvati.
"Amazing, Potter," (Y/N) said. "Truly. I don't know how you do it."
"Oh, it's the Gift," he joked. "My Inner Eye, and all that."
"Of course. Certainly not that I get you one every year,"
He shook his head, furrowing his brows in mock sincerity. She could hear the edge of his laugh as he spoke.
"Oh, no, certainly not,"
