*After Nat passed out at the triplets' birthday party, he was rushed to the emergency room. His wife, Kenzie, & his brother, Alex, arrived at the hospital to see him. Gladly, Nat was awake by the time they got there.*
*Kenzie's P.O.V.*
As Alex & I walked to Nat's room, I almost began to cry. I couldn't believe that Nat fainted during his sons' party, the one that we've been planning for months. Dr. Jonas said that his heart rate kept going up & down, & that he was falling in & out of being alive, & then being dead. I can't stand the fact that my husband almost died! I don't want him to leave this world yet. I never, never do. But, I knew that everyone cannot live forever. Nat said that himself, years ago, back when he had that tumor in his appendix.
When Alex & I arrived at Nat's room, he was hooked up to a heart monitor, had many IVs in his arms, & a cannula in his nose.
"Knock, knock," said Alex.
Nat looked at Alex & I. "Hey guys."
"How are you feeling?" I asked.
Nat shook his head. "I feel like shit," he said. "On a stick."
"Nat, what happened to you?" asked Alex. "You seemed fine earlier today, didn't you?"
"I don't know," he said. "All I remember seeing, was Shane with his jock friends. I saw them walk towards Jason. I didn't know what they were talking about, but once they left, Jason looked upset."
"Why is that?" I asked. "Were they picking on him again?"
Nat nodded.
I sighed. "We should've never let Shane invite those assholes to the party."
"Kenz, it's not your fault," said Nat. "Shane just always likes to be the boss of everyone."
"He's been that way since the day he was born!" I said.
Nat & Alex were silent for a minute or so. Then, I added. "Maybe we shouldn't talk about this right now. Maybe I should just stop talking. I-I'm sorry, Nat." Just before I walked out the door, I saw my three teenaged sons in the doorway.
"Mom, are you okay?" asked Nate.
"Where are you going?" asked Jason. "Aren't you going to stay here with dad?"
I looked at Jason, then at Nat. "I was going too, but, I just don't know anymore."
"Babe," said Nat. "Please don't go. Stay here with us. With me. Please?"
I nodded. "Alright, I'll stay."
"So, why are you here in the hospital, dad?" asked Jason.
"It's a long story," said Nat. "We'll talk about it later."
"Well, I'm glad you're not dead," said Shane. "Can I leave now?"
"Shane, you can't leave!" said Nate. "We all just got here!"
"I don't care!" he said. "This happens ALL the time! Whenever one of us gets hurt, or kidnapped, or whatever the fuck the situation is, we ALWAYS end up in here, especially dad! I fucking hate it so much!"
"Shane, that's enough!" I said. "Right now, YOU'RE the one who's embarrassing us all for the way you're acting!"
"Whatever," said Shane. "I'm outta here."
"Shane!-" I said.
"It's alright, Kenzie," said Nat. "Let him go."
I sat down on the bed next to Nat, & began to cry on his shoulder.
