          𝐓𝐎𝐍𝐈 𝐃𝐈𝐃𝐍'𝐓 𝐒𝐋𝐄𝐄𝐏 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐍𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓. 

The overwhelming sense of anxiety had kept her awake, unable to shut her eyes and rest her mind. She couldn't help but think about the entrance they'd found or the way being in the maze had made her feel. That horrible, suffocating aura that had squeezed her heart and shredded her lungs. If Percy hadn't been there with her, holding her hand and providing light, Toni was sure she would've curled up in a ball and let the panic take hold. 

Maybe she should explain.

Antoinette De Noir did not used to have such a crippling fear of tight spaces nor the dark. In fact, she used to love hiding in tiny spaces as a kid. It was the main reason she won hide and seek when with her cousins and childhood friends. However, after the events of her father's death . . . being in an enclosed space made her relive everything. 

How she'd been stuck under that bed, watching in complete terror as her dad got ripped to shreds by a monster she thought only existed in stories and nightmares. How she hadn't done a single damn thing to stop the creature and just squeezed herself further into the darkness beneath her bed. 

Being in that maze⎯it made every memory of that night resurface like always. And no matter how many years passed or how hard she tried to stop it, they just always returned. Always haunting her.

Toni had a feeling that her time in the maze last night was not her last. And that terrified her. It sent ice water through her veins and made her shoulders heavy with dread⎯such draining and consuming dread. Yes, her potential aid in a quest through the Labyrinth could save the camp and the world, but . . . 

She didn't know if she could do it. 

"Andi?"

The girl's head snapped up, eyes meeting the concerned ones of Percy. He sat beside her in the arena, the other head councilors creating a circle along the outskirts of the building. Despite the floors being dirt, Toni felt comfortable and relaxed (though that may have been due to the boy beside her and not the feeling of the ground beneath her ass). 

That morning, Chiron had called a war council. Normally they would include just the leaders of the camp and the cabin councilors, but since Toni had been one of the two to find the entrance to the Labyrinth, she was dragged along with Silena. And while Toni had experienced a council before, she had to admit that they were nothing like the war councils back at Westover.
