Flashback to 2008
A groan left Jin's mouth as he came running towards the balcony, where Joon, Tae, and I were hiding. "Thank god." He said while he sat down on the lounge chair with an arm covering his eyes.
"Where were you?" Taehyung whined. Lifting his arm and opening a single eye, Jin replied, "Mom and Dad wouldn't leave me. Like literally. Mom had held my arm the entire time to make sure I wouldn't slip away. You have no idea how difficult it was."
Namjoon and I snickered as we knew that the only reason we weren't sharing the same fate as Jin was because our parents had given up on trying to make us mingle with the guests at the huge parties they would throw.
Third-person POV
The four children sat in comfortable silence. The scene that unfolded in front of them was nothing out of the ordinary. They simply couldn't stand the pretentiousness of it all. The fake small talk, the fake smiles, the fake hugs. Their precious minds simply couldn't understand why all those people, who without a doubt talked trash about each other behind their backs, would be all smiley smiley when they converse.
Time passed by quickly, with the children giggling and joking around while they waited for their parents' annual Christmas Party to end. Amidst all the laughter, Taehyung exclaimed loudly, gaining the others' attention.
"I HAVE AN IDEA"
On hearing the eleven-year-old's chirpy voice, Seokjin smiled fondly and tilted his head in question. "You know, like how, you know- in the movies- those kids, they always go caroling and stuff?????" The other three nodded slowly, still confused.
"WELL, WE SHOULD GO CAROLING!" Tae yelled and raised both his hands.
"Uhhhhh..." Namjoon looked towards Vanessa and Jin nervously, hoping they would decline.
Taehyung pouted and made puppy dog eyes and said, "pleeease?"
The older children collectively groaned since they were all unable to say no to Tae whenever he would do that.
And that's how the small group found themselves sneaking out, with Santa hats on.
Back to first-person POV
"FELIZ NAVIDAD! FELIZ NAVID PROSPERO ANO Y FELIZIDAD!"
Granted the first few songs that we sang were sung with us trying to hide our faces in embarrassment, we soon got comfortable and began singing on the top of our voices.
All four of us were holding hands while jumping and singing along to the few Christmas carols we knew.
"LAST CHRISTMAS I GAVE YOU MY HEART BUT THE VERY NEXT DAY YOU GAVE IT AWAYYYY. THIS YEAR babababbababa I'LL GIVE IT nananana SPECIAL!"
Taehyung was standing in between Joon and me while holding our hands. He giggled and sang the lyrics to the songs. We heard a car moving closer towards us and like we'd done every time before we all began yelling and rushing to the sides, only to laugh at our foolishness since we were already standing at the side of the road.
A group of teenagers passed us and I saw Jin's gasp and stop singing. He immediately looked down as though he was trying to hide his face. I guessed those were people he knew. Apparently, Joon and Tae had also noticed their brother's behavior and we three looked at each other and smiled evilly.
Taking in a deep breath, we began screaming as loud as we could, "JINGLE BELLS JINGLE BELLS JINGLE ALL THE WAYYYYY! OH, WHAT FUN IT IS TO RIDE IN A ONE-HORSE OPEN SLEIGH!"
Seokjin turned to glare at us furiously before increasing his speed and trying to get as far away from us as possible. The three of us laughed even more now and began running behind him, still singing as loudly and as off-tune as before.
The starlit night was filled with cheerful voices, loud laughter, joyous singing, and pure happiness. Finally, we stopped, the four of us were extremely tired, and our throats were a dry and sore plus, our legs were hurting since we walked so much.
Joon asked in a raspy voice, "Sheesh, it seems like we've singing forever. What time is it?" It was only when we finally saw the time did we realize that we were so, so late.
3:16 A.M
Shit.
Jin's eyes widened in realization, and the fourteen-year-old began rushing everyone so that we could get back home as quickly as possible. Once we reached the Kim's home, Jin whisper yelled to his younger brothers, "Don't make a single sound. If mom and dad find out, we'll be grounded forever."
The duo nodded furiously before tip-toeing back to the house. Jin then turned to me and said, "It's really late, I'll come with you and drop you off." And with that, we got on our bicycles, that we had left there, and cycled all the way to my home.
Seokjin stood and waited till the time I disappeared behind the big door of my house, before turning around to make his way back to his home.
I slowly and quietly went up to my room and that's when I heard something move. My heart was pounding in my chest when I heard someone speak.
"And just where were you all night long, Vanessa?"
Mother.
Oops
Oh well, it doesn't matter if I get into trouble. This Christmas was the best and most memorable one ever. And nothing could ever change that. With that thought I laid down in my bed, clutching my pillow to my chest, smiling to myself, without a care of the fact that I was grounded for the next two weeks.
